Printing rule? OC vs CC and shoulder vs belt
Ok, I am new here and waiting for my plastic. My question has to do with the new open carry vs CC concerning shoulder holster.
I often wear shorts so I was thinking it may be smart to get a shoulder holster. If I have a shoulder and wear an unbuttoned or loosely buttoned shirt over the shoulder holster, do I have to be concerned with printing.
Example. If a place such as say...whataburger is ok with CC but opposed to OC do you have to be worried about printing as an issue? I have never worn a shoulder, so I don't have a good example.

Nothing wrong with a little printing. Most people won't even notice.

Considering your penchant for the unknown moral dilemma, here is a thread regarding shoulder holsters you may want to read. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=78708&hilit=Shoulder+holster
Rather than being concerned about printing, should you be concerned about pointing a loaded gun at someone? Just food for thought considering that you are so new and all.

Not all shoulder have the muzzle pointing backwards.Rather than being concerned about printing, should you be concerned about pointing a loaded gun at someone? Just food for thought considering that you are so new and all.
If it is not identifiable as a firearm by " normal observation" then don't sweat it. Wataburger nor any other business is going to start interrogating their customers about every little bump under their shirt.

I've gotten pretty familiar with the 411.171 definition lately. Now that OC has been passed it seems Mrs. DocV asks me if my Wilderness Tactical Safepacker constitutes OC every time I wear it. I just recite:
Then I ask her if she is a reasonable person and if she observes my pistol as being openly discernible. She says she is very reasonable and that she can not tell there is a pistol in my Safepacker. Mrs. DocV is never wrong. At least, that is what she tells me. So, don't worry about printing. As long as you aren't just outright publishing then you should be fine. Even then you only have to worry until January of 2016.“Concealed handgun” means a handgun, the presence of which is not openly discernible to the ordinary observation of a reasonable person.

I am not new to weapons and I am not new to carrying weapons. I was a peace officer for 11-12 years and have worked in CJ for 23 yrs. certified weapons instructor and all.mojo84 wrote:Considering your penchant for the unknown moral dilemma, here is a thread regarding shoulder holsters you may want to read. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=78708&hilit=Shoulder+holster

My question was directed correctly and has been responded to, I was concerned with printing in a shoulder holster, not a holstered weapon being pointed at someone

Just thought I would share it with you in case you were concerned about the possibility of people not wanting a gun pointed at them. Thanks for the update on the bio though.

A bump is not a pistol visible to the ordinary observation of a reasonable person. Don't worry about printing if you are legally carrying your concealed pistol.

Re: Printing rule? OC vs CC and shoulder vs belt
To the best of my knowledge, the word printing is not in Texas Penal Code in regards to the carrying of handguns. Several others have posted the text of the relevant PC, or an abbreviated form of it. Thus, one of the favorite phrases on this forum is "concealed means concealed". Either someone can tell it's a handgun, or they cannot, and that's it. When I was new to carry, I worried about that myself, but these fine folks helped me get over that.

Not all shoulder holsters orient the gun horizontally.....you can get vertical holsters. I've tried shoulder holsters and haven't found them to be practical for CC. They'd probably work better in places where it is practical to wear a coat or jacket. I got them to wear around the house when I was in house pants and not wearing a belt. Maybe I just needed a better quality holster, but the ones I tried didn't work very well in that application either.....they needed a belt for stability.mojo84 wrote:Considering your penchant for the unknown moral dilemma, here is a thread regarding shoulder holsters you may want to read. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=78708&hilit=Shoulder+holster

Re: Printing rule? OC vs CC and shoulder vs belt
Checking out your links got me to thinking I was sort of comparing apples and oranges. I was using shoulder holsters for full size guns like the Beretta 92 and Glock 21. With one of those rigs in the links I could probably carry a Sig P938 with no problem. Although in my old age I don't really like wearing tight fitting shirts like that holster shirt. I think I'll stay OWB with polo shirts as cover.LSUTiger wrote:Effective CC Vertical "Shoulder" holster.

Thanks for the lesson on shoulder holsters guys. However, that wasn't my point. I have a vertical and a horizontal shoulder holsters. I'm familiar.
