Statistics show women are increasingly arming themselves and learning how to shoot. The number of women shooting at targets in 2001 was listed at 3.3 million. Another survey in 2011 found 4.9 million women participating.

Most women cite safety concerns as the reason they arm themselves.

Austinite Niki Jones armed herself in 2005. After many outings as the only woman at the shooting range, she started a club 18 months ago called Sure Shots. The womens shooting group now has 150 members, many of whom Niki says have never picked up a firearm before, We go through all the safety. thats really important and they realize its not very intimidating and then they start shooting well because they are getting really good instruction and that really boosts their confidence and then they come back and they get really into it.

They showed several shooters, one was interviewed who awoke to a burglar in her house, and showed indoor shooting at Reds and also live demonstration in the dark outdoor shooting steel targets ... around Round Rock/Pflugerville

Good stuff. It goes much deeper than this, now. The last two years have seen a great surge in women getting armed.
Why not?
We must protect our own.

This is a great report. We are seeing more and more positive reporting on private ownership and use of guns. It's not merely coincidental that this began with the surge in gun ownership and carrying of self-defense sidearms by women.

I think another aspect of this is that women are joining the military and getting comfortable with guns, then coming home or getting out and spreading that experience among friends and family.
