Advice on advanced training for an older woman?

Do any of you have experience with either DTI's (John Farnham) Basic/Intermediate Defensive Handgun course or Gabe Suarez[s Close Rannge Gunfighting as taught by Glenn Mathews? Both are coming up shortly around this area. I would like to take one but don't know enough about the people involved to make a decision. While I agree intellectually with some of the points made by Suarez concerning "getting off the x" , etc., I find the testosterone a bit difficult to take at this stage of my life. Is there that much differce in what they teach?

Which would you take and why
* BTW, I did check to assure that I would meet the prerequisites for the CRG course"

I am sure either one will be worthwhile. Pick the one that comes closest to the type of training you are looking for. If that doesn't help choose the instructor that comes closest to your way of thinking. It is always best to choose an instructor that is not set in his ways to the point that he produces cookie cutter students.

I'm not a woman, so I can't claim to have the right answer for you, but having taken the DTI Basic/Intermediate Defensive Handgun course last March in Victoria, I highly recommend it. We didn't have to worry about testosterone getting out of control in our class, as the Basic/Intermediate course was taught by Vicki, John's wife. Vicki is an outstanding instructor in her own right, and the author of several books on teaching women to shoot.

Hope this helps,

-Xander

What type of training are you looking for? I like the intigrated (gun, empty hand, movement, distraction, knife, ground, etc...) approach very much. In a self defense situation, you should be able to use your ALL to survive the criminal assault

I have only seen Suarez's shoot on the move, and it makes me a little nervous in the accuracy dept.

Some people, like Tom Givens in Memphis, have noted their students have won gunfights w/bg's that only invovled 1 step offline, draw and shoot.

That's why you get training and then practice! And if you can get involved with IDPA, you can practice with some pressure at a match.
