Well...there's always Maxpedition! If she likes the Fatboy style bag, those work well--I use mine for CCW when I find I can't IWB. Other options are to try gunshows for a non-name brand purse. Or ebay & craigslist, or put out a series of WTB ads on the various gun forums.

I understand the constraints that price can put on purchasing but a good holster will run $60-$80. So my question is a good purse, which has two functions, is worth what? You can find lesser quality gun purses but drawing is not as smooth. Some things I don't think is worth penny pinching on if you can avoid it. Just my cheap 2 cents.

Holster are probably much higher than they need to be due to the volumes that each manufacturer produces, and a lot of hand work.

Personally, I am both extravagant and cheap. I want to own the best, or high quality, or a durable and feature rich etc. product -- and I hate to overpay when there is something better for less money, or even as good.

My daily holster was incredibly cheap and just disappears when worn. The purse we bought was cheaper than 'ordinary' purses, bigger, stronger, better suited for carrying junk and had a gun pocket.

I like that. I won't judge on price. I am too cheap to do that.

If your wife enjoys sewing and can do it well, she may be able to modify another purse for use with a holster. I think CompVest has done this, but it's one of those personal things that you have to design for yourself with your own lifestyle in mind. (I can't even sew pants hems, so this project would be out of the question for me.)

Personally, I like the fossil purses. I've found the quality of the leather to be very good, but they don't seem to carry the price tag of the other designer purses. I tend to get tired of my fossil bags before they ruin. I've never had a strap break, so if I found one with a good compartment for my gun, I would snap it up.

As far a guns.....although I don't have a problem racking slides, some of my friends find that .380s are hard to rack. One exception is my Colt Mustang Pocketlite which is not a blowback design...however the mustang pocketlites are quite pricey these days and there could be a potential parts issue. Beretta does make the model 86 (.380 cal) which has the pop up barrel and you don't have to rack the slide. It's not extremely small but is worth mentioning. CZ handguns always felt great and were easy to rack although the P01 I had was not expecially light or small (although it's a compact).

I bought one of these. They were cheap and I will through it in as an "extra" birthday present (coming up.) If the likes it I'll be happy. If not it won't be her main present and I am not out much.

It would seem that Milady has homed in on a 9mm Springfield XD. It's comfortable, she's comfortable, it will fit in her fanny pack and the somewhat less than "high falutin' name brand designer" carry purse suggested above.

Now all I have to do is make a trade?

It's owned by a grandmotherly CCW'er in CA who carries in a purse and started selling them when she couldn't find out what she wanted to know before buying a replacement. She ships really fast and has tons of information and pictures about the purses that she carries.
