So my wife is looking for a job that has flexible hours, where she can take a week off here and there without problems (she goes on frequent mission trips),and she can make some extra money. She doesn't have any other regular job.
I suggested that maybe she would like to become a CHL instructor.
How much demand is there for female CHL instructors? Are there a lot of them? We are in the NW Austin suburbs area.
Any advice in this area would be very much appreciated.

Re: how much demand?
Regarding the 'demand', that's hard to say. My wife is a CHL instructor and she's as good as any male instructor. She also handles ladies only classes (something I can't do). The demand for these classes is moderate, but fairly steady. I wouldn't call it a job by any means.

hmm... well this would be just extra money... if she can make $500/mo or more this way then it would be fine.

I haven't lived in Austin for quite a while, but I grew up in Northwest Hills. I can't think of where the nearest shooting range would be for her to use (possibly Eagle Peak in Leander), but it doesn't really have the best reputation.mr.72 wrote:So my wife is looking for a job that has flexible hours, where she can take a week off here and there without problems (she goes on frequent mission trips),and she can make some extra money. I'd tell her to go for it! Her classes will be particularly attractive to women. Most ranges will tell you they want a female instructor, but few actually have one. It's a lot of work; more than you'd think. In addition to the certification, she'll have to put together a lesson plan and some sort of a presentation. There are materials available if you don't want to roll your own. Professional and social organizations (clubs, churches, etc.) and friends can be great sources for her first few classes. She may also want to offer finger printing, photos and notary services with her classes. The notary and photos are easy. It's tough to get approved to do prints, however. Most ranges will have someone who can print your students for a fee.
It's fun. It's a worthwhile cause. It's a lot of work! She'll enjoy it, though, and should be able to pull in some extra cash. Best of luck to you!
