While as an ideal, I tend to think "Whatever floats your boat," but in actual practice, I wonder if tarting up guns in non-traditional colors is going to work out all that well.

My pessimistic/practical side can see a point about cops (or me, for that matter) worrying about whether that thing in someone's hand is a squirtgun or the real thing. Though not common, I believe there are enough cases of people getting shot for wielding things that later turned out not to be a gun, or even a weapon, that throwing another point of confusion into the mix is not helpful. I don't want to see cops get shot for hesitating in confusion...or innocent people/kids shot because the cop (or again, me) DIDN"T hesitate because we weren't confused -- just wrong.

At the New Life Church attack, the gunman walked through the parking lot with an AR-15-type rifle and the newspaper reported several witnesses thought he had paintball gun. Wonder what they would have thought if he had had the Hello Kitty version? (Even after he started shooting, someone thought it was a car backfiring, etc. People are often just not ready to accept a disaster is upon them).

I do not dispute that in theoretical concept, painting your gun pink or rainbow or what-have-you is not different than getting it nickeled with gold trim and ivory grips, but in practice, I think there is a difference. I don't think there should be a law against doing it but I think it wise to reconsider it. The first time some kid shoots his sibling with a pink gun, the anti-gunners are going to beat us with a very big stick. It won't matter than gun accidents among kids are at historical lows, that it may not have made a difference what color it was because the kid (and his parents) was (were) irresponsible idiots; the story will be that gunnies are so careless and frivolous that they set up a kid to be murdered.

However, I think this painted horse is out of the barn, so I guess we will see what happens. I will retire to my corner with my nice matte black Hi Power with black grips, hope for the best, and see what transpires.

I take my previous comment back. If this gets Mayor Bloomberg's panties in such a wad that he gets NYC to pass another silly law, and then throws a fit about the "Bloomberg Collection", then I am all for painted guns. Painted guns for everyone!

I was hoping their marketing dept would push for a release for Mother's Day! We asked a S&W rep at the TSRA meeting at Mesquite about it and the guy only said "well... it's in this year's catalog". We knew that much!!

Thanks for the update! It might be worth the wait if they make it so nice we can't pass it up when it IS released!!

My one and only time my wife has considered a CHL was when I showed her a pink CCW. Sad...but I'll take it to get her involved.
