How to??

Anyone have any advice on how I could get my wife to go shooting with me? I would like for us to be able to enjoy the shooting sports together. We have been together for 7 years and have only gotten her out twice. Heck the first time she even outshot me.

I don't want to push her. I also know that it just may be that she isn't intrested.

My suggestion...get her to go with another woman a few times. Seems that as much as we try not to, men tend to intimidate, or at least create anxiety when they take their wives shooting. They learn differently than we do, and unless that is understood, both parties can get frustrated.

Best bet, get her some experience shooting with other women first, then try the invitation to go shooting as partners rather than shooter and non-shooter.

Thanks for the tip. I do have one friend who's girlfriend likes to shoot with him. Maybe we could work something out.

My wife is an NRA pistol instructor and active competitor. She has been very successful in getting women interested in shooting. If your wife is interested in getting some instruction from a woman, in a more structured format, let me know.

Steve and his wife are very active in IDPA shooting and in teaching. Both are NRA Certified Instructors and I think your wife would enjoy training with either Steve, Donna or both.

Donna was instrumental in setting up and running "Roses with Guns," a ladies only day at PSC.

Regards,
Chas.

I would be happy to go shooting with your wife. Drop me an email if you are interested at compvest@ev1.net

I'm working on putting together a monthly women's class at our home range, Thunder Gun Range.

CompVest - Don't know if this is the project Charles mentioned, either way let me know if I can help. BTW, we may be about to get the Ladies' Program at PSC off the ground.

I got my wife to go shoot IDPA with me a couple of times. I had to drag her to go. I convinced her to go to Thunder Ranch with me and she was miserable for the entire 3 day course.

As soon as we got our diplomas and we got in the car to leave for home, she looked at me and with all seriousness said, "That was really good, we need to come back next year for sure."

We went back this summer and it was the same drill, complained about the first 3 days and finally toughened up for day 4 and 5.

I still can't get her to go shoot with me on a regular basis though. I've bought her black and brown DelFatti hosters/belts/mag pouches hoping to appeal to her style side, no luck.

I finally left her alone, (started working graveyards), suddenly she got an interest in carrying guns and what she had on her night stand and under the front seat of her car.----Go figure.

I still have not figured out why I can teach police officers how to deploy a patrol rifle, but I doubt my wife could clear a Class I malfunction in one. Charles told me not to worry that even a wise man is an idiot in his own village, I now understand.

It is simple, we want our men to be everything but teacher, Glenn!

Thanks for the offer TraCoun, I'll keep you in mind.

I will be launching the Personal Protection for Women monthly class at Thunder Gun Range in March in a special format in conjunction with Montgomery College's 2nd Amendment Academy's Ladies day at the Range. Officially the classes will start in April.

This is a great thread as I'm in the same boat. My wife has no interest in guns whatsoever, but I think it is really important for her to be familiar with and know how to use the guns we have in our house.

She has shot my Glocks before, but has always had trouble racking the slide on a semi-auto. I think, for her, a revolver is the best route. I want to get her one, but I want HER to pick it out. Trouble is...she's not interested in going to look.

Braden,

I can think of two ways to get your wife out looking.

1. Offer to take her on an all day date with a visit to a gun show as part of the date. At the show have her look at and handle all types of revolvers, note which ones she likes, then buy it LATER, and surprise her with it. Do make it pretty - grips, finish and such.

2. Try to set up a ladies only gun show outing. Be sure a knowledable lady is part of the group. We don't mind be ignorant and silly infrnot of each other but don't want to appear so infront of our husbands.

If either one of these approaches work. Set her up with lessons preferably with another lady.
