Found out some new information about the Licensing Process...

1. The people on the phone to no processing at all and cannot see your application unless you did it online

2. Takes up to 5 days for a piece of mail to get from the main DPS mail facility to the CHL Department elsewhere on the complex

3. Pictures are sent to an outside company for processing and approval/rejection

4. DPS in Austin does not do the background check. Troopers around the state do most of them and when they are too buys, an outside agency does it.

Not sure how accurate this is, but this is pretty much word for word what the nice phone lady just told me.

That could be, depending on which extension you get.

UP to is key. DPS mail goes to a central area, where it has to be sorted out and then sent via the internal mail system.

Somewhat true. DPS Austin does the FP check through TCIC, and forwards the FBI prints. They then assign the background to a Trooper in each county where you have lived/worked during the assigned timeframe. The Trooper in that county checks the records of the Criminal District and County Clerk.

No outside agency is invloved at that level.

So, is it possible to get updated information on the status of an application once it has been assigned to a trooper? I have called on two occasions. Both ladies were very nice, but only gave very general information.

"Everything seems to be alright. They are working on the back ground check. Don't worry." is about all I was able to get.

I am just getting close to the 60 day mark and getting a little antsy(I mailed on Mar 12). I have no arrests, child support or loan issues, mental health issues, lived in the same county. I read about others getting done in 30 days or so, and wonder what might be the problem.
