So this might sound crazy but I am going to ask anyway. Is anyone else besides me concerned that if they ever have to draw their weapon that your pants might actually get the drop on you? I know when I am unholstering at night my pants are pretty loose, and I have to grab my belt to keep them from heading south. I carry inside the pants so it adds an extra inch or so to my already too large waistline and I worry that if I ever had to draw I would be distracted by my pants. Is it just me? I know I can stand with my legs spread apart which would be a proper stance to begin with but if I had to move around it could get interesting.

If you remove the holster from IWB, then you will gain that extra room. However, if you have a properly supporting holster, I would think it should continue to support your pants when you only draw the gun from it.

If I had to draw my weapon and my pants dropped, the pants situation is the last thing on my priority list.. :-)

Well I am using an Uncle Mikes nylon ITP holster. I really like it, but when I pull the gun out it has no structure so instant loose pants. I agree that pants are going to be the last thing on the agenda if I have to draw in public, but I also don't want to be on America's Funniest CHL Videos.

I guess maybe I should look into a formed leather or leather/kydex holster. I really like the one I am using and it's super comfortable.

There is your problem. You need a holster that will stay open without the pistol. It will also allow one-handed reholstering.

If money is an issue, or even if it isn't, consider ordering a Kholster. They are probably the most comfortable IWB holster you will ever wear. I wear mine almost every day and I don't carry an inexpensive pistol.

You do have a real gunbelt right?

YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY need a better holster. In addition to not allowing your pants to fall down, it will protect your trigger (NYLON IS NOT GOING TO PROTECT YOUR TRIGGER), and be more comfortable to wear.

Seriously a good holster and belt are as important as what they are carrying.

A real gun belt should help too. They are much more rigid than normal belts.

I wear a Kholster every day. Once it broke in, it's very comfortable.

Proper belt, proper holster...

Your stance should never be compromised. Period.

When I did carry IWB with a Glock 27 I used an MTAC Minotaur and never had this problem.

I wish that there was a sticky that said "NEVER EVER carry IWB with a holster that does not retain it's shape without the gun in it".

If you are having to hold a holster open with your support hand while holstering, you are now pointing a loaded gun at your support hand while attempting to holster!!!!!!

That's the problem right there. Get a real holster. And a real belt, too, while you're at it.

It is quite simply foolishness to not use a proper holster and belt.

If you were confronted with a situation that necessitated your pistol in hand while simultaneously dropping your pants to your ankles, your adversary may just stop what he's doing and fall down laughing.

There's lots of disagreement/agreement about what brand/type constitutes the perfect carry holster, but there is almost universal agreement that a good gunbelt is a requirement.

However, even with holsters there is common ground as to necessary features. Among them are: good pistol retention, a covered trigger, and sufficient rigidity to permit one-handed holstering. That leave you LOTS of room to decide materials, IWB versus OWB, degree of cant, color, paddle versus belt loops, etc., etc., etc.

You say you find the cheap nylon holster comfortable, but have you ever actually worn a good leather or kydex holster? I'll bet that once you try it, you'll never go back to that cheap one again.
