Trip To The Doctor While Carrying

I've slowly worked my way to carrying pretty much all the time other than at work and church. Last week I had to have an MRI and I didn't wear my gun. It's less than 5 minutes from my house. This morning I had to go to my regular doctor for the report on the MRI. Knowing I didn't have to take another physical I wore my gun...it was very concealed under a t-shirt...no printing anywhere.
When I got into the room they weighed me, took my blood pressure before the doctor came in. She came in and we went over the MRI then she said I had gained a little over 3 lb since last week and she was a bit concerned about that much gain in one week. I told her I hadn't actually gained any weight. She asked then where did the weight come from. I said I prefer not telling you because I'm not sure if you would freak out or not. (Nothing about handguns on door). She said now you have to tell me.
So I say ok, I have a concealed handgun license and I'm carrying but didn't want to take a chance of upsetting you but that is where the extra weight is from. She threw up her hands and said I'm not concerned about that. I was raised around guns and have several patients that carry. That doesn't bother me at all. Then we spent about 5 minutes talking about how bad the world has gotten and the purpose of my carrying.
So had a great day.

My doctor has a chl and welcomes chl holders. You know you can carry at church if you want to unless it is posted.

Doctor Patient stuff is private anyway. I have a check up on the 18th but Im
leaving my gun stuff in the trunk. My Doctor isnt from Texes & I dont know what his view on firearms are. So I don't plan to let him know. The only people that know I carry is my wife, Mother & Brother (Whom ha dhis CHL for 16 years now).
OH... and the salesman at Pro Bass in SA (Thanks to my wife) he ask us what I wanted the vest for & my wife blurted out he has a CHL & want to conceal his gun! Luckly he said "OH! I have just the summer vest for you". LOL.
PS: I had a talk with my wife.
There are no 30:06 signs at my Dr office clinic.

There a story in the Conceal Handgun Manual (Sixth Eddition) By Bird about a church that was attacked in a small comunnity. One on of the Church member was an CHL holder & saved a lot of people. Really if how comfortable you feel about it.

I disarmed last time. No sign at the door. I didn't have to do it.
I've known many medical professionals that aren't very pro-gun.. I just didn't feel like making a big deal out of it (possibly) that day. I knew I'd be on the scale.

They have this little tray by the scale, I usually just put my keys, wallet, cell phone, and extra mag in it. When the number pops up, I tell the nurse to deduct 2lb's. she always says "I gotcha"

If they question why the weight change in a short period of time, I usually point out that if they wanted an accurate weight I should be weighed disrobed, and that I carry all kinds of junk in my pockets that will effect my weight. After I pull out 5 or 6 harmonicas and some other stuff, they just accept it for what it is and leave it at that. It had happened once, and the nurse that took my weight accepted it, no revelation of carrying a gun or anything like that.
OTOH, when my chiropractor found my carry piece that was a different matter.

Agree. Is your church posted?

I go to a very large church....no postings at the door....we have paid off duty cops at each entrance plus I know of several members who are cops that attend our services that carry while dressed in street clothes. Knowing our pastor he would NOT like having his congregation carrying although I do know some that do...I just choose not to.
If for any reason he should find out I was carrying or anyone else it would raise a stink and I prefer not going that route. I was a member years ago of a small church in another town where a guy did come into the church and killed one person. I had just left that church about 2 months prior. I know it can happen but as I said our church is pretty protected and I feel safe there.
Probably not a decision many would make but it's my decision.

mlsa, yes it's your decision. I will let you know my descision and why. Most have read this part of our story. I lived in CO Springs during the church shooting, New Life, look it up read it well, my doctor held two young ladies hands and prayed them into heaven, there was nothing he and his girlfriend could do. It changed his life, he began to carry, and let his patients know, he didn't care. I was a homeschooler, the girls were from a homeschooling family that was well known, I knew of the family. I fielded phone calls for several days from family and friends making sure we were ok. My daughter went to our church that night for an event, my husband and a friend sat in the parking lot keeping watch in their cars. I will never, ever attend a church where we can not, or do not feel comfortable carrying. A police officer is not responsible for keeping my children safe, my husband and I are, God gave them to us, no one else.
and that's my sermon for the day...I'm sorry <3

No need to be sorry and I do respect your decision. And I do love good sermons.
