Post by sepiid »

well, i had my first outing with my CHL on my hip.
i dint go to wal-mart, instead i went to Tandy Leather and Toys-r-us!
Tandy for me (needed leather to make a new holster) and toy r us for my boy so he could ride the horse ride

all in all a great few hours!

it was easier to wear than i had imagined.

The toys r us in Mesquite doesn't allow firearms. The sign they have posted is not legal but I guess the intent is there.

OP:

You only have to leave your gun in the car if the place is properly posted with a 30.06 sign, or is an otherwise
"off limits" site per Texas statute (courthouse, school, bar, for example).

Do not be cowed into leaving your weapon in your vehicle by any other sign.

Also: NEVER, NEVER, I repeat NEVER ever bring up with a storeowner that their "gunbuster" sign does not meet
the Texas standard for notice (30.06). Just be silent so all of us can carry in their site.

You betchya!!!

Sounds like a very good day Sepiid. Congratulations.

However, the leather place obviously doesn't count for a Wally Walk, but ToysRUs might be good enough, especially with a kid depending on the age. If your son is under 6y it might qualify as the level of difficulty goes up with young ones because you never know what they are going to do or say.

+1 on the don't ask or inform someone of their non-compliant sign. Just go about your business with your cat that ate the canary grin. You may or may not want to give them your business in the future, but that decision is up to you.

BTW, what city or area of Texas are you located?

I know the sign isn't legal, just thought I would mention it so others could look for it also. This one's in Mesquite. I still carry and continue to shop cause of the grandson!

its fun going to all these places now! i just need larger pants. the IWB adds a couple inches to my already 48-50 making the pants all the tighter.

Well i have been doing the walk for quite some time now. it feels natural now, i still shirt check all the time though, tugging it down or out to make sure things are covered. i carried to work, and to a few technical conferences. was a great feeling.

i have never been asked to leave anywhere, never been spotted.

i have started to open carry while doing yard work. its a great conversation started for the neighbors. have been doing this for about 2 months, every friday about 5pm during my weekly mowing

Why not? It is perfectly legal, and only mildly objectionable in some places. I don't open carry while doing yard work, but I don't worry about keeping it concealed either. I have often used my shirt as a sweat mop, and I am sure anyone looking would have seen it. Doesn't matter, no requirement to keep it concealed when on your property or property under your control.

Because sometimes it's just too hot. Now, I do keep it concealed in my front yard, but do not in my fenced backyard. Most of my backyard has a chain link fence. However, most of my back yard is not visible to the public even with only chain link. It is there to keep my dogs from running loose and clearly define the property line.
