Hey guys, new here and just wanted to say hi and ask a couple of questions. I just took my class Sunday, got fingerprinted and sent paper work Wednesday!
I was not sure what sidearm I wanted to carry, but after shooting a XD-9 for my qualification, I fell in love with it
! My main question is what size firearm would you suggest I carry? I am 5'9" 220lbs, I'm short and fat
. Would a 4" compact conceal fairly easily or do I need to get a 3" subcompact?
Also looking for more classes for firearms training. Any input on classes/instructors in the D/FW area from guys that have taken them would be great!
Thanks! I've enjoyed reading the site and now that I'm waiting on my plastic to come in I figured I'd join.

Welcome,
Pick what works best for you. Try it if you can or ask a friend who has the same pistol/gear. I have both the 3.8" compact pistol and the 3" subcompact pistol. It is only 0.8" longer on the barrel, I find my self 100% carry the subcompact and the other pistol is now dedicated for home defense and night outings.

carry the one you feel comfortable handling and shooting.
with the right holster (Crossbreed or Comp-Tac) you can carry a 3" or 4" or longer.
You will be surprised how easy it is to conceal once YOU get over the fact that only YOU see the butt of gun or the crimp in your shirt or pants that no one else even has a clue of.
you just have to remember, you do need to dress around the weapon.

And when I went to renew my DL, I was at DPS and a Deputy was going left and right eye balling all who are waiting like 40 persons in 2 lines in a small room. None noticed that I was carrying in a belly band with an extra mag on the weak side. Just act normal and mind your business (awarness) and everything would be allright.

Welcome to the forum. Also check out White Hat Holster's Maxtuck IWB holster, you can order different kydexs for it if you have more than one carry weapon so all you need is one holster.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll check them out, because I know me, I'll end up with more than one carry option.

Can't wait to take it out and put some rounds through it.
