I carry a Springfield XD .45 ACP with the 10rd magazine and Pierce Grip extension. I carry it in a Comp-Tac MTac IWB holster. I also carry a spare 10rd magazine and surefire G2 LED flashlight in Comp-Tac mag and light holders.
This combo works for me. I carry with an oversize T-Shirt.
It's not perfect but its the best I've found so far for carrying a .45 ACP, my full size 1911 is just to big to carry with out a jacket.
The Glock 19 is easier to conceal and more comfortable if you go the 9mm route.

Re: Springfield XD .45ACP
IV just bought a Stainless XD45acp (with thumb safety) and mine has the "Not legal in California" 13 round magazines,
I got it "slightly" used, low round count though, but the holster/mag loader accessories were missing, I'm waiting on new Advantage Tactical sights I ordered and a new extended barrel before I try it out and start carrying it.
I got offered a Glock 23 brand new yesterday with extras, I've always been a Glocker due to reliability, but I like the XD feel so it may be my new primary with my Glock 26 as a BUG soon.
I have LOTS of holsters, but will probably carry in my Desantis Tuck This 2 ... I grew to like that cheapie holster a lot.
Currently my Glock 26 is primary; has an extended barrel, Advantage Tactical Sights, laser, and a Glock 17 mag with a Pearce PG39 +3 base plate for a 21 round total. (20+1 chambered)
I have a Glock 19, but the shorter slide on my 26 clunks less on the church pew because of my skinny legs and position, so it with a shorter 15, or 13 (10 & PG39 +3 base plate) round mag and spacer may become the BUG.

I try to carry my XD45 as much as I can. But, if I know I'll be wearing tighter clothes, the grip tends to print more than my Glock 19.

Re: Springfield XD .45ACP
I used to carry an SA XDM 9mm (19+1) in a Crossbreed Supertuck. It concealed OK. If you were looking for a gun, you'd have probably seen it, but it wasn't a neon sign. I just sold that and bought an XDM compact 9mm (13+1) (which is actually a tad shorter grip-wise than an XD subcompact, but has a longer barrel). The compact is much easier to carry from both a weight and concealment point of view. And, the extended grip still allows 19+1 if I'm so inclined.

Rpb, if you don't mind me asking. How much did you pay for a slightly used xd 45? I'm looking and was woundering about how much they run used or even what a descent buy is for a used xd vs new. Cause so far all I've found is new at gander mountain but haven't really gone looking at used.
