I am taking my CHL class in september and am looking for a good carry setup. (Gun and Holster) I like the Springfield XD Subcompact and want an inside the belt hoslter. My quandry is that I am fat and am concerned that the gut hang that I have may prevent me from going with an inside the belt setup. Are there any other plus size gentleman that could make a recommendation for me? I really don't want to do the pocket holster if possible.

By the way I'm 6' 1" 260lbs with a hanging gut in the front and a slight bulge on the sides, no hang.

I know the feeling...I am 5' 9" and roughly 235. Same distribution of lard. An IWB is not comfortable for me. I have a pocket holster for a Taurus TCP 738 and am trying to find a holster that works for my body type that will accomodate a Glock 22. I just ordered a Bianchi Shadow II that I should have soon...

Hopefully some of the other buffet molesters will chime in...

I am 5'11" and I (was) 275 when I started carrying on April 29th this year.

I carry a Springfield XD9 SubCompact in a Comp-Tac Minitaur IWB holster. I keep it about 3:15 or so and it does not show a bit.
If I am going for a long walk, I would carry about 4:00 or so, and hike up the shorts a bit more and it was go right into the curve of my back and the sweat (yes, yuck LOL) would hold it nice and tight.

Now that I am losing weight (at 240 lbs) I still carry the same way and it just gets better.

My normal carry is docker shorts, with a Crossbreed Gun Belt.
Under Armor T-Shirt over the IWB, and you cannot see a thing even with that light of clothing.
I will say, like most everyone else, 1 size bigger pants and shirts to cover better.

Try the Crossbreed Supertuck, CompTac Minotaur, or similar.

Works for me.

I'm 6' and 300 lb ++. My IWB carry set-up is a Kimber Compact Aluminum .45 ACP in a Bullman Gunleather PDL holster. I waited *over* a year for my Bullman holster but he's not taking orders at this time. The holster is very similar to the Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 from what I can tell (http://www.miltsparks.com/VM-2.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

TWO! Kimber in the Bullman and my new S&W Bodyguard .38 in my front pocket. As of the past few days the .38 in my front pocket is the MOST comfortable way I've carried!

My daily carry depends on what mood I am in. On any particular day it could be a Glock 23 or my Kimber Pro CDP. They each have their own Crossbreed Super Tuck. The Glock is a bit "chunkier" than the Kimber, but both conceal well in the Super Tucks.

How about diet and exercise?

I wouldn't have dared to make this comment if I was 6'-0" and 185 lbs. As it is, I'm 6'-0" and just about the right weight for 7'-3" and not too worried about it. I wear Shamu size Tee shirts over a OWB Don Hume First Agent which snugly and discreetly carries a 1911 or a Hi Power or an XD. In the winter, I add an overshirt to my ensemble and a jacket if necessary.

Holsters cost as much as you want to pay; however, a good thick gun belt is a must.

You lightweights shouldn't have a problem. As a matter of fact, I've come to think that we've got it better than the beanpoles.

I am 6' and 335, but when I started carrying a 5" 1911 IWB I was about 360. I've also carried my Kahr K-40s and revolvers from J-frame to N-frame without any discomfort.

It all comes down to a very good holster and belt, which won't be cheap. Still, you should be able to equip yourself nicely for around $150-$175, maybe a little more since extra length belts are fairly expensive.

My personal preference, going back a decade, are those made by Tucker Gunleather.

5'10 and 230, but I have a "large" frame (I guess).

Kholster at 9 oclock (lefty) for a full size 1911 with no problems at all. Unless you are going full size, go owb with a bigger shirt.

I'm 6' 0" and 250 lbs. I was wearing cargo shorts and a 3X T-shirt when I had lunch today with techalum. Ask him if it showed.

My current EDC is a Sig P239 9mm in either a supertuck or (like today) a mini-tuck.

I'm about to order a Comp-Tac Minotaur Spartain for my Kimber Ultra CDP II. Believe it or not, the Kimber is slightly smaller & lighter than my Sig.

Comfort is not an issue in one of the kydex-backed leather IWB rigs.

Without a doubt look into the Crossbreed Supertuck. You won't be sorry. Give it a try as they have a money back warranty. If you don't like it, send it back for credit, but you'll like it. Get the belt with it.

I'm 5'11" 280# I carry a full size M&P in a Crossbreed Supertuck or a 1911 in a Don Hume 721 OT. Get a good quality GUNBELT and dress around the gun. Us robust fellows really have an advantage over the fit types in that nobody thinks anything of a "fat guy" wearing an untucked print shirt.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Y'all have me rethinking my subcompact decision. It sounds like a lot of you carry a full size weapon without and issues. I was planning on the sub mainly for ease of concealment. I am leaning towards trying the supertuck. Thanks again and I will post up some picutres when I pull the trigger on a purchase.

2 things to make sure you have is a good holster and a good gun belt.

I am 6-2 at 260 and carry either an XD45 or one of several 1911's OWB in slide holsters.
