30.06 Sign, letters missing

Had to get my Wedding Ring cleaned at Jareds. While looking around I see their 30.06 sign next to their sleeping, gunless security guard. But, on the sign, several words/letters/ look like they have been scratched out (Like someone with a knife or Key scratched the out)
Is that sign still legal?

I wouldn't test it in a courtroom.

Any idea which guard company? I don't know of any that won't terminate for sleeping on post.

Excellent advice. It's just like testing the size of the sign. We all know law gets construed in courts.

I wouldn't think that an otherwise proper sign having been defaced would make any difference.

Glad to see they take safety seriously

Not unless you had 12 people with CHLs sitting on the jury.

That won't happen.

I'm thinking that store management was simply taking advantage of the fact that they had on-site security guard protection and was in the process of removing the 30.06 sign one letter at a time.

Is it a fully compliant sign other than the missing letters?
If so, I would not carry there.

So, how many letters can be missing before it becomes meaningless?

I'd think that technically, one letter missing would render it invalid.
For all you know, it said "30.07" before the letter fell off. You don't know if it was valid before the letter fell off, and it certainly doesn't meet the requirements of 30.06 while missing a letter..
That being said... Rap/Ride, CisC, and all that :P
(I'm just going to abbreviate those like that from now on.. Type them too many times :P)

So, if a group of vandals went around scratching out the letters we would all be golden right

I think contesting the legality of a 30.06 sign is akin to the robber winning a lawsuit for cutting himself on a kitchen knife in the home he was robbing. Plainly put, if someone puts up anything resembling a notice telling people with guns to stay away, a court is going to tear any of us apart for entering...regardless of how the sign is worded or what it's condition is.

That would be up to a judge.
Or worse, up to the person in Austin who reviews my ability to keep my CHL becuase I thought I was not violation because a letter was missing.
I am not willing to test it.
Depending on a technicality can bite you hard.
I am however happy to not patronize the establishment.
