Howdy All,

New here as you might guess.
I'm looking for recommendations on a place to take the CHL Class for new applicants. The two places immediately available to me would be Reds Indoor in Pflugerville as well as Eagle Peak outside of Cedar Park. I shoot at both regularly so I am familiar w/ the facilities.

Any experiences with either of these? Is there a specific instructor I should search out or try to avoid? Any other places one might suggest?

Looking for input. I Plan to take mine in the very near future.

I took my CHL class out in Spicewood with a nice guy named Gail Wood; he's a realtor in Marble Falls. Sorry, but I don't have his contact info handy. He held the class at a ranch in an old ranch house. Small and very personal.

The wife and I took ours at Eagle Peak. A friend took his there and highly recommended it. It was an excellent class. Plus they served Moe's barbeque for lunch The instructor was quite good. Just as importantly when the wife was taking her shooting portion of the test, she froze up loading her clip and got nervous. The instructor calmed her down and then proceeded-with the wife managing to score 3rd hghest in the class

Highly recommend and we will go there for the renewal.

Does anyone have any experience with CAPS-CHL in Leander? I'm up for renewal and they are walking distance from my house but I do want a GOOD instructor.

Side issue - Moe goes to my church. I eat there quite a bit, but more often catered.

I have not taken his class, but I know John, as I have competed with him at various local matches in Central Texas. He is an outstanding individual, so I would expect his class to be great.

My girlfriend's father approached me recently about getting his CHL. It seems a co-worker of his wants to get his license, and apparently my influence was a positive motivator. He has decided to take the course and get his CHL. They plan on taking the course from the CAPS folks in the next couple of weeks. On researching this group for him, I found a couple of points that impressed me.

They rent 9mm semi-auto guns to folks that need them for qualification at a cost of $20 including ammo. That makes for essentially free rental with the cost of the ammo (he only has a revolver, so I recommended he use a rental to get the SA endorsement).

They are an all-inclusive course with photos, fingerprints, and notarization included.

They sound like good folks, and I'll report back with his impressions once he's taken the course.

I'll be there (CAPS) 1 week from today (the 8th of Feb) if anyone wants to join me. As of right now it looks like there are 4 open spots for that class.

I'm signed up for 8-Feb as well.

Due to time requirements, this fits in perfect. Also the fellow in the lane next to me at eagle peak this weekend gave a strong recommendation. He had the same instructor, Jim. Others here mentioned John was great. Hopefully this will turn out well.
