Do y'all have any recommendations for an instructor for a new chl?

I have noticed a couple sources who have advertised their price for the chl around here and I'm not willing to spend 150+ on a chl class. I don't care if they feed me lunch or take me on a horse ride. I just want to take the class and take my written and practical tests.

Also, another consideration is that I'm not a pro shooter yet with handguns. I have always been an long gun guy and have just recently gotten into shooting handguns. The more lenient the instructor is on the shooting practical the better. I'm not saying that I want the instructor to pass anyone who hits the target, but my string fires are still a bit inconsistent at best as far as timing goes.

With that said to y'all have any advice and recommendations on where I can take my CHL in the Lubbock area?

Classes generally run $120 and up. The course is mandated by law at no less than 10 hours of instruction.

There is no difference among the scoring. There is a standardized test. You fire 50 rounds each worth up to 5 points. You must pass with 70%, or a 175 out of a possible 250.

I'm from the Austin area and can't really help you with finding a good instructor in Lubbock.

But I fully agree with your desire to find a good instructor. What a good instructor does is make the class interesting and dispense accurate information about CHL law and use of force law.

As for the shooting part of it, don't worry about it. It's like a driving test. Everyone passes. You won't need any indulgence on the part of the instructor.

The whole course is pretty easy actually.

If you're not too familiar with handguns, I would advise getting some instruction as to safe handling both at home and at the range. The CHL course assumes you know this stuff (even though many people taking the course do not).

While I think you should be able to do much better than $150. but get an all inclusive that includes Pictures, Prints, fingerprinting and notary service. Its worth not having to run all over town trying to get these things done. Omne stop shop is definatly the way to go!

There are costs the instructor must cover for each course. Rent. Paying the Fingerprinter. Range fees and materials. I paid less than $100 dollars and got excellent instruction and it was all inclusive. Unless you require specialized attention (because of your schedule etc.) I think you should be able to find someone in your area who would do it for under $120

Dang thats expensive...mine was 60 bucks I believe. Have you talked to the guys at Patriot range off of 50th? I believe they have classes but I don't know the price.

Not in Lubbock, but the class in Brownfield is $100, and includes photos, fingerprints, & notarization. There is only one class a month, and it is usually a very small group. Next one is mid-November.
