First rule about CHL is we don't talk about CHL (except on internet forum boards). Second rule about CHL is we don't talk about CHL (except on internet forum boards). The advice I've been given has been that if you make an honest effort to conceal and don't figit with the thing, you won't have a problem. As I'm still in the process of getting my initial chl, I don't have any real experience to pass along yet. But I will offer this. When I decided to begin the chl process, I started looking at people closely to see if I could spot some sort of evidence of concealed carry. I live in eastern Harris County & work in Houston, so the possibility that I haven't run into any chl holders should be pretty low. But I haven't seen one person that I thought might be carrying. And I've been actively looking for a couple of months now...

Why would they ask?

If you're not concealed, they know the answer...

...but yes, there's an outside chance that some may not be alert enough to be discreet and simply let you know you're not concealed.

However, if you're swelled to the point that a stranger is moved to ask you such as question I'd ignore them. You don't owe any stranger an explanation about your person...bulging or otherwise.

A now deceased friend had both an ileostomy and a colostomy that created some abdominal wall protuberance evidenced under his shirt. Had some busy bodied stranger been so ill mannered as to have asked him about it in some public locale he would've been mortified.

In general, when I think of strangers asking questions that're absolutely none of their business, I have a hard time thinking they probably just trying to be helpful...

Concealed is concealed. It's nobody's business that you're carrying - ever - except when asked by a LEO to show ID.

Why would they ask?

Because some people think that covered is concealed regardless of how tight the cover is. They know that printing is not against the law, but go further than just stretching the limits in my opinion. One past friend of mine was like this. We both had CHLs before we met and neither of us knew until we met for lunch one day. He was a muscular well built guy and the only thing he had covering his Glock 23 was a loose, but somewhat fitted t-shirt. Remember, I didn't know he even had a CHL, but now figured/hoped that he did. I asked him and he said, yes. He asked what made me ask and thought, really? I told him I could tell he was carrying a Glock 23 or 19 at about 5 o'clock IWB. We weren't good friends then and didn't stay friends long after that anyway. He said no one had ever noticed before. I just can't believe that. Back then I was carrying my G27 and didn't feel the need to say anything to him about it. IMHO, he was not concealed enough and think that if an officer had seen this or one was called he would have been arrested for failure to conceal.

I can believe him. I open carried hundreds of times in other states and found the sheep never even noticed that, so I can easily believe that no-one had previously noticed printing.

It may not be a good idea but it's legal to admit it.

I compliment you, gringo, for finally giving an answer to the question kewlteacher asked, whether your answer be right or wrong. The question she did not ask, that is -- "do I have to answer the question?" -- received many answers.
