As a LEO friend said, do it anyway. just don't tell anybody.

ClarkLZeuss wrote:So a buddy and I are heading back from the range on Saturday, and we pull into a bank so I can make a quick deposit. There's no drive-thru, so I have to go inside. It's a Wells Fargo, which I haven't seen 30.06s on before (at other branches), plus I've scanned to be sure. I'm about to go in, holstered, but then my buddy says, "Wait! You can't go in there armed." Now, he just did his renewal and I got my plastic just a few months ago. Banks didn't come up in either of our classes, so we have a short discussion about it in the car. We agree that we haven't seen anything in the law about banks, but maybe it's not the best idea to go into one armed, you know, just in case.
Afterwards, we laughed about it, and it really got me thinkin. And wonderin: have any of you voluntarily disarmed before going in somewhere, just to be safe? Are there places you know you can go into armed, but you still don't?
I can tell you you're OK in a Wachovia branch. Looks the same for a Wells Fargo branch, but can't speak for all of 'em. Never seen anything to the contrary in any of the WFC Branches I've been to though.
Sorry to post here, but is there a sticky or a thread that lists the places you are or not allowed? I dont mean specific cause of texas3006.com but I mean schools, little league games, etc.
might help others and there might be ones I dont even know.

Check out this link http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/texas.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. It has the list of prohibited places. Also, your instructor should have covered these in class and provided you with a copy of the statute. IMO, it is really important for a CHL to have these memorized and know where they can and can't carry.

Being as how you just took your class and received your CHL 2 days ago I'm surprised you don't know where you can and cannot pack. I keep my Tx CHL laws and statutes book with me at all times. It has come in handy several times quoting actual law/statute rather than "I read", "I think", etc...

class was in Feb, was reviews breifly in the class, not to great detail. i am pretty sure I know all locations, but I asked incase I have forgotten a few. And from alot of the things Ive read here, i just asked a question that alot of people are wanting to ask but seem scared to.
I would rather forget right off the bat and learn before i make the mistake, then forget 4 years or more into my carrying.
I would hope that there are not anyone out there that is scared to ask a question on THIS forum!! We all had to start somewhere and there is no such thing as a dumb question and you should not be afraid of anyone jumping all over you...it just don't work that way here. If it is important to you, it's important to us.
There will be many here more than willing to help.

I greatly appreciate your reply
Again, my apologies if my reply read to be condescending, it was not intended to be.
It is very important to know the laws, and PLEASE DON'T be afraid to ask here on the forum. We all forget things and better to ask and know than not and get in trouble!!

The CHL book sorta has things scattered all over the place, I believe if there is a list it could be handy to have a list of such places to help memorize. There is short term memory and long term memory, the information gathered in 10 hours could be tough to retain it all once the test is done with.
Although I joined this forum a couple of weeks before I took the class. I found the forum to be a great way to reinforce what I had learned in class. Older minds sometimes need multiple exposures to get things to sink in.
