Extra Magazine Carry
Hello all,
Sorry in advance if this has already been discussed, I've searched and could not find anything on this. Do you carry an extra mag? And if so where/how do you carry it? I've been considered getting one of the Blackhawk! double stack mag holsters (single or double I haven't decided), but I wanted to see what the consensus was here. Thanks!

Re: Extra Magazine Carry
I carry only what my gun will hold.
With 1 exception, I do have an extra mag in my car for my pocket carry gun, as it is only 6+1.
However, I don't think I have ever taken that extra mag out of the car.

Re: Extra Magazine Carry
Depending on what I am carrying, I may have as many as a total of 54 rounds including what is loaded in the gun.
Or as few as 11.
But ALWAYS at least one extra magazine.

Re: Extra Magazine Carry
My extra mag stays in the truck. I guess if I needed it, and I wasnt in the truck, I would be in trouble. Now I gotta get a mag holster.

I always carry my two spare mags using a double mag holster.

I carry an extra mag, but not so much for extra bullets.

Carry one or 2, whatever you feel comfortable. Once at Cabelas I was asked what brand of concealment vest I was wearing. Then, I was asked how many firearms are on you ? I replied 1 plus 1 extra mag. I was told that someone had on him 6 firearms!c.edgington wrote:Hello all,

Round count is
When I carry my PX4SC, 13, 17 plus 1 = 31.
When I carry my P30, it is 15x3 plus 1 = 46
When I carry my PX4, it is 17x3 plus 1 = 52.
I have 20 rds mags but I prefer to keep those for competitive matches.

I carry an extra magazine in a Horizontal Mag holder. I am like "jbarn" not just for the extra ammo. The fastest way to fix a malfunction is changing the magazine.

I carry a spare mag in my pocket as in case of failure and a quick tap-and-rack doesn't solve the issue.
Hello. My name is Red and I used to carry a .45. Now I carry a 9mm and it's getting easier to admit every day.

I'm in the same boat. 54 rounds of 9mm (for me) is quite comforting depending on the situation.jimlongley wrote:Depending on what I am carrying, I may have as many as a total of 54 rounds including what is loaded in the gun.

My EDC typically includes two extra mags in a Gould & Goodrich leather mag pouch. I carry a .380 most of the time so I view the extras as a necessity. I keep them on my left side, bullets forward.
That said, situation dependent, I'll carry a gun with a capacity of 6 and that's it. It really just depends on what I'm doing for the day but again most days it's two extras.

Re: Extra Magazine Carry
I've only got my 15+1 on my person, but if I'm in my truck, (all the time) I've got 6 mags in my range bag FMJ's, and an extra mag of HP's in the center console.

Re: Extra Magazine Carry
Three reasons I carry an extra mag: It helps even out the weight on my belt, I might need the extra ammo, and its always good to know I have an extra mag in case of a malfunction.

I live by this adage: "Two is one. One is none."
Along with recoil springs and ejectors/extractors, magazines are the most prevalent break point of a semi-auto pistol that would cause it to stop properly functioning. If this happens and you have only the one mag? Oh well ...
