True, if they are stupid enough to fire you over exercising a right. It's been over many many times here. Basically, a company can fire you over nothing, but they cannot fire you over anything. There are many protected reasons that one cannot be fired for and if it can be proven that one was a reason for termination or the company is dumb enough to say it then they get what's coming to them.
In my line of work, companies tend to bend over backwards to document every single thing that lead up to someone's termination to avoid wrongful termination lawsuits. I suspect that is common practice among many other industries, but not all.
