My child is on a school shooting team (skeet, clay, etc.). The practices and events are all held at shooting ranges.
It is a shooting range where other people are carrying that are unaware of any school related activity.
I guess the question is, can the "no carry at a school sporting event" actually apply, and how can it be enforced?

No. The same way a field trip to the zoo would not preclude everyone at the zoo from Concealed Carry.
If you are accompanying the students and are there strictly for the school event, you should not carry. If the school rented the entire range and it was closed to the general public during that time, then no one should CC.
General rule: if the school function enters the general public, then CC is not affected. If an individual enters the school function then CC is affected.
