Well, it wasn't Wally World

...and I didn't go for a week after my permit arrived, but I carried for the first time tonight! Made it through Academy and Red Lobster. Like I said, it wasn't Wally World, but do I at least get points for taking my first trip to Academy to buy another gun and some ammo? Hubby has been carrying my Ruger LCP 380 and I wanted it back so we ended up buying another one.

Also want to thank you guys for such a great forum, I've learned a lot and have giggled out loud a few times. I don't remember which thread it was, but somebody posted about keeping your "booger hook off the bang stick" and I think that just may be the best message board post ever! Also took your advice and we took a trip to Spring Guns & Ammo after work to check things out. Everybody was very friendly and we will definitely be back. If we had thought far enough ahead we would have bought our new Ruger there instead. But, fear not, there will be a chance to make amends as I have quickly figured out that handguns are like kittens...you can't help but collect them.

TAM (The Annoyed Man) was the first one to tell me that. I have used that since in real life, when explaining gun safety. it usually gives people a kick, but they all seem to remember it!

rq,
You may just have to wait for her to have an a-ha moment. I got trapped at the drive-thru line at Long John Silvers (elevated curbs, car in front, car behind) with a shady character staring at me and wandering closer and closer when I decided I needed to heed my hubby's sage advice and consider learning how to protect myself. Matter o' fact, gun ownership was our first argument as a married couple 24 years ago, he wanted to bring his shotgun and I didn't like that idea...my, how times have changed! Now I'm draggin' him hither and yon looking at weaponry and ammo.

Wanted to bring his shotgun...on your honeymoon? Was it a shotgun wedding?

Like I said, it was our first visit to Spring Guns & Ammo and we were mighty impressed with the staff. It was unlike *other* stores/ranges where the sales people have the uncanny ability to determine within five seconds of your approaching the counter that you are not there, in fact, to purchase a weapon, and therefore are disinclined to answer questions or let you touch a pistol. We most definitely intend to return to shoot, take a class, and hopefully (crosses fingers) buy a gun or two. And, for the record, the Ruger LCP we bought at Academy was the same price as it was at SGA (oops).

On a side note, I have seen around the forum that the moderator, Mr. Cotton, occasionally holds classes...where do I find more information on that topic? I checked a few websites and looked at a few calendars, but didn't uncover any useful information.

Also, an informal vote - membership in the NRA, TFC or both?
