Under Dress Shirt Carry

They say I'm a "worldly man." What that means is, I'm bigger at my equator than at my poles...

I use the 5.11 undershirt.

For me, IWB was an "acquired taste". I bought a CBST after reading about them on this forum, and it felt so foreign and uncomfortable that I didn't think it would work for me. However I kept tweaking the position, depth & cant until I found my "sweet spot" (about 4:00-4:30) with a good forward cant. Everyone is different, and it just may not work for you, but don't be too quick to discount it. Now my CBST is my favorite method of carry.

So I think I have narrowed it down to (2) types. One will be the pocket carry and the other will be a shoulder holster under the shirt. Thinking about the galco light or executive. Not real keen on the executive price though. Have any of ya'll tired one of these under shirt?

I have always liked about pocket carry is when approaching an bad situation you can have the gun in your hand and ready to draw without anyone knowing. if someone demands your wallet, he expects you to reach in and pull out a wallet so going for the gun does not startle him the way reaching under a garment would.
The other advantage is the ease in arming yourself when stepping out. Takes no time to slip into the pocket.

You have 3 real categories of options:

Ankle

Pocket

Undergarment: Thunderwear/Holster shirt/belly band/smart carry etc

A possible fourth is get a fanny pack rig and sew a medical patch on it with a piece of rubber tuning running into your shirt. When people ask what it is just tell them they don't really want to know. A Jedi hand wave usually helps.

There are several concealment Tee shirts on the market..

5.11 is one brand that comes to mind.. I think I've seen them in white and black.

These are basic Tee's, that have an elastic band pocket sewn onto them.. easily carry the Walther under the arm along the rib cage..

I have a friend that uses a belly band, but he pulls it up higher on his chest and wears it over a tee shirt, with a dress shirt over it..

wear the concealment t shirt under your dress shirt and use velcro to hold the front of your shirt together. Sew on the buttons to the outside shirt flap so that it looks like you're holding the shirt closed with the button, but it's really the velcro. This will make your draw quick and concealed for a relatively small and flat gun like a Walter PPK.

If a tuck holster isn't an option for some reason, I usually pocket carry instead.

I found the PPK/s to be too heavy to be comfortable for pocket carry. It would noticeably cause the pants to sag on that side. I've since picked up a S&W 442 J-frame and pocket carry that frequently.

I use three different holsters for my GLOCK 36. I have a The Holster Store IWB clip-on that is very rugged that I wear around the house or the yard...it clips on to nearly everything and I don't need a belt, mine has 0 cant...I wish it had some. I also use a Fobus OWB paddle holster that is extremely comfortable, but harder to conceal. For carrying under a dress shirt I use a tuckable IWB Galko "Skyops" that I really like. It's very lightweight, comfortable, and conceals easily with a loose fitting dress shirt. No doubt, you will not win a shootout at the OK Corral with the Skyops, and it's a little clumsy to re-holster my GLOCK, but it works very well under a dress shirt. They are made for two belt sizes, 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 inch.

I wear a light, white, cotton/velcro shoulder rig ( http://deepconceal.com/concealed-carry- ... olster-p-3 ) over a tee shirt and under my dress shirt. If I'm wearing a tie then I simply leave two or three of the buttons unbuttoned. The rig is secure enough to hold a 20-something ounce SP101. The revolver tends to lie just under and to the left of my left breast pocket. So I stick something bulky in that pocket like my sunglasses.

I have... How do you sit down with that? When I first got my gun, before I had figured out where I was going to carry it, I tried shoving it down the front of my pants like that (unloaded) and I couldn't even take large steps without it getting in the way.

There is one shoulder holster design that is pretty much perfect for dress shirt carry - Ken Null's SMZ. Null makes it fast, ships it fast, it's cheap and extremely secure. A really nice piece. I have two for my PPK/s - one with the normal harness, and one on a Bianchi X-harness with a Galco Lite mag pouch. Can make pictures of how well it conceals if you like.

You might also want to consider the Galco Executive. Not as secure, and concealment isn't as perfect as Null's SMZ, but it's a very nice rig.

also I could not get rid of the bulge on my hip.

Had the same problem when i first got my tuckable IWB b/c most of what I've seen on the web show people carrying them at the 3-3:30 positions. Tried that first and you could almost read the serial number printing through the shirt
Anyway after countless adjustments of the clip positioning of the holster, and moving it from every position between 3 and 6 o'clock. I finally found that about a 4:30 position is great, comfortable, and conceal's my fullsize with no problem. Most dress shirts (at least on me) tend to blouse out in the back anyway, so it was really not a noticeable difference for me. I also notice that this position keeps the frame of the gun much closer to my body. The closer I move it to 3 o'clock the more the grip sticks out.

My advice is to keep adjusting till you find that right spot.

I decided to try to tuck my shirt into my CrossBreed...I always wear my shirt out. I thought it would look pretty obvious, but it looked just fine.
