"Small of the Back" holster?

Does anyone use a "SOB" holster? I've heard they are a pain to wear while driving, but other than that are there any cons? Just trying to figure out what is the easiest way to conceal.

Most of the people on the forum do not recommend SOB carry due to the possibily injurying the back from a fall.

For me OWB is the most comfortable way to carry. I don't have the gun being pushed against me by my belt like you do with IWB. I can sit, stand, or do anything else with ease and comfort and I can conceal with a regular sized T-shirt if I desire.

I usually carry my Gov't 1911 OWB at the 4 o'clock position in a Combat Master belt holster. This allows for the grip to ride more with my body and does not stick out and still allows for a quick and easy draw. I also wear two T-shirts. This is something I have been doing long before I carried and it helps hide the gun better.

I love my Combat Master belt holster but it is a traditional pancake holster. I am looking at getting the Concealable belt holster as it looks like it carries the gun in a more comfortable position.

A fall isn't the only way to suffer injury from SOB carry. It could easily happen in a vehicle wreck as well.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Never thought about the wreck or fall situations. I just bought a Comp-Tac IWB and I'm still trying to mess with it a little to get rid of the printing. Probably wouldn't hurt me to lose a couple pounds either. Just wondering about the SOB as a secondary means if need be. I'll probably rule that out though.

Keep working with your holster... the printing isn't likely near as bad as you think.... it is funny to me how much the gun butt shrinks the more you wear it

I have a Galco SOB holster that I almost never wear. It is not very practical. Not comfortable for driving.

I can easily conceal, but the simple act of sitting down takes thought.

Here is a real life example. I was at church with wood backed pews. Being Catholic, we stand up and sit down quite a bit during mass. The one time I wore the holster, two times when I sat back down, I made a noticeable "thunk" against the back of the pew.

That was early in my carrying experience. Now I carry IWB or OWB at 2 or 3.

I bought one from Galco and wore it in a car one time. Came home and put it in my failed rig box and there it sits today.

I like SOB.
It's just another form and position of OWB.
I carry a G27 daily; the compact size fits perfectly.
I usually carry SOB for dog walks or when I won't be sitting down.
But if I do get in the car while SOB, I pull it out and place it in the center console for fast and easy access just as I do with my
OWB. Neither method does any good when your seat belt is in place.
All methods of CC have their limitations.
Find what you like and practice with it.

Tactically, small-of-back carry is a very poor choice.

Some folks are from Missouri and prefer personal experience to accounts from others.

I prefer the other way around when the experience comes from reliable sources and the information makes sense to me because I don't have the time to redo all the mistakes they've been through. It's faster, less expensive, and less painful.

Either method works, and in some cases it's kinda six of one and half a dozen of the other.

But in this case,.....OUCH!
