New to Carrying

Hello All!

My First post and was wondering something. I was with my friends at the Quarry Shopping Center in San Antonio and saw that a particular place had a 30.06 Sign. I went back to my car and took out my Glock 27 and locked it in my trunk. This didnt happen, but what if a cop was walking by and saw me pull my firearm out and putting it in my car in the open? Can I get ticked for that? Sorry if this is a stuid question but just wondering...

I would say yes since you are intentionally unconcealing your handgun. When I lock my handgun up, I keep it low under the windows and only when there is nobody to see. Practice in your driveway or garage to see how you can keep it low and out of sight.

No. You would most likely be arrested, unless you were on property that was under your direct control.

I dont jump in many "what if" threads but this does happen on a few occasions.

If it does & you have to disarm in the wide open spaces, get in your car, drive out to the edge of a parking lot. Take your gun out of your holster while setting in your car. Wrap it up in a towel, shoping bag, anything.....

Then put it in your trunk.

Sounds like good advice to me. In this situation, would you envision leaving your holster on or removing it also? Just curious....

What ever would suit you. I have done it both ways.

I used to wear a IWB holster w/ belt snaps. On & off was easy.
When Hospitals had to start posting 30-06 I quit the on/off drill.
Only time I had to do it w/ OWB I took the holster & vest off too.

The reason I asked in the first place was because I could just see myself digging around trying to remove my Crossbreed Supertuck IWB (which takes a little work) in the car. Seems like an unnecessary hassle but perhaps there is another perspective I had failed to consider. Thanks for the reply.

I usually removed the gun, but left the holster on. I did it inside the car, but I didn't bother moving the car out to the edge of the lot. I have tinted windows, and I just made sure that nobody was close by who could see what I was doing. But I haven't been anywhere in a while where I had to do that.

Also, I always have ONE OF THESE under my seat. That's where I put my gun if I have to disarm.

I saw that safe referenced in another post and you reminded me I need to check the clearance under my seat to see if it would work.

Simple solution to disarming in a parking lot before entering a no-carry establishment. Keep a towel in your car or handkerchef in you pocket, place hand up under shirt (or into pocket, wherever your CCW is located) and cover the gun completely with the towel. Then remove and store it still wrapped in the towel.

IANAL, but as far as I'm concerned if you do this right, you've not unconcealed at all.

Putting the wrapped gun into a Wal-Mart or other store carryout bag before moving it to the trunk will virtually ensure that your action draws no attention at all.

FYI, I removed my holster as well just because it seems weird to me to have an empty one. I have a simple belt clip subcompact Holster so there was no problem in removing it with ease.

I bought one of those small safes and found that it would not fit under either the driver or the front passenger seat, probably because my car has power seats. However, the safe does slide under either seat FROM THE BACK. Naturally, that isn't as convenient as being able to access it from the front seats but it's better than nothing.

In my car is lots of "trash"; always has been. Good camoflauge

Anyway, I keep an extra large towel for when I go fishing, a huge plastic garbage bag for that day I decide to clean out my car, and a couple walmart bags. These typically cover up my Garmin GPS, Radar Detector, two 33 round glock magazines, a 6 cell Maglight, any valuables etc. I've seen women breastfeed with less material than a large beach towel or large garbage bag and still be discrete. I've disarmed a few times in the car (when I had to, to vote, go into courthouse, etc.) and draping a towel or large garbage bag over the area while unholstering isn't too hard.
