One more packing

#1

Post by danpate »

I just received my CHL in the mail today. I have to say it really went smooth as silk with me. From the time DPS received my application until I got the plastic in the mail was right at 6 weeks.

I will be performing my Wally Walk very soon (maybe tomorrow). I will make sure to file a mission report after I return to base.

Be sure to put the Mission Impossible theme on your iPod and listen to it as you're walking in. :thumbs2:

Well I complete my first day of concealed carrying on Sunday. I did not make it to Wally World, but I think I did a pretty acceptable job anyway. I was surprised I did not feel more self conscious carrying, but it felt pretty natural. Sorry, no pictures. I did not have a wingman to fly photo-recon for me. Here is the rundown:

Carrying a Taurus PT-111 Millennium Pro 9mm ITW at 5 O'Clock under a sweatshirt. I have to admit I did "pansy" and did not carry a round in the chamber. There is no way to uncock the gun and I am still undecided on how safe it is to carry concealed with just the safety between me and a ND.

Waypoints completed:

Went to my gun club to shoot all morning (like that was a chalenge! Most of the people there were carrying concealed)

Harbor Freight Tool Company (I had some guy who looked like a wino breathing down the back of my neck while standing in line. He probably would not have noticed if I had been carrying a RPG)

Academy Sports to buy more ammo (again, no challenge)

My shop to do some work on the gun safe I'm building (the challenge there is getting in and out without needing to draw the gun)

Home for dinner (I did not tell my wife or daughter I was carrying, they did not notice)

Super Target with my 14 yr old daughter (the challenge was sitting in the drivers seat with the gun at 5 O'Clock. I could not stow it in the vehicle because I would have revealed it to my daughter. Again, she did not notice)

Back home

Sorry, doesn't count. It has to be WalMart; no substitutions allowed. :rules:

It seemed spooky not having a conventional safety, so for the first few months of ownership, I carried my Glock 19 with an empty chamber.

As time passed and the trigger was never pulled by accident, I eventually started carrying with a round in the chamber. That was many moons ago.

I now actually feel safer with one in the chamber.

The safety is me.
