Most comfortable position full size 1911 inside pants ??

#1

Post by Jesse1911 »

I own a full size 1911 springfield and a 357 2" snubby. I wanted to get a compact 1911 but i've read that they are not as reliable as the full size models due to not enough travel on the spring and therefore they sometimes missfeed. I carry the 357 w/38 spl+p at 2'o clock comfortably. I still feel the need to carry my .45 but wanted to see what most of you guys that carry this piece find more comfortable for driving, sitting down, walking etc.. Thanks for the suggestions.

IWB holster, such as the Comp-Tac CTAC, about 4 o'clock, relaxed fit Wranglers.

FWIW, I am noticeably overweight, but still no problem.

I carry at 3:00 with a Dakota defender. Couldn't be more comfortable.

4 o'clock IWB. For me, comfort is linked more to the holster itself than the position I wear it. You may want to try different holsters as well, before you settle on a final spot.

I briefly carried a 4" 1911 at 8:30. It was fine. I don't think a 5" would be any worse than that.

BTW, this thread reminds me of that scene from Tropic Thunder where Jack Black pulls a full sized 5" 1911 out of a pair of bikini briefs.

Now that's funny!! "rlol"

4:00 for me, IWB... I had a lot of trouble until I finally broke down and bought a *good* belt and holster, now...no problems.

When I carry IWB, it usually starts out around 4, and migrates to 3 as I shuffle it around trying to find the best spot of comfort and concealment. As far as full-size vs smaller, I'm more comfortable with the full size since the extra length is just more leverage to keep it in postiion.

I think seeing Jack Black in bikini briefs would be very scary.

Mine rests at 3:00 or just past with a good cant and a fairly high ride. Same place I carry my compact 1911s and plastic guns. It's most comfortable to me there. Farther back toward 4:00 and beyond I don't like the gun pressing into the back of chairs, and it's not a comfortable grip for me if I have to get my hand much behind midline...I'm not very flexible. To be legal in IDPA, I actually have to position the gun and mags a little bit behind where I normally carry. Too, my shoulders are relatively wide and the extra thickness of handgun and mag holders conceal best for me if they're at 3:00 and 9:00, respectively. Everybody's a little different.

Morn, :tiphat:

I have found that 4 o'clock position for my CZ 97b to very comfortable. The cant of the weopons is important in comfort, size of belt (1 1/2 inchs.),
and the waistband position. I wear baggy shorts with a large t-shirt or Hawaii shirt. The best bag carry is computer bag, every one has one. Just take the computer out and check email.

For me (carrying a 1911 or a Glock):
With a good belt and a good holster, I adjust the location and cant until I find what works.
That being said, I carry between 3:00 and 4:00, generally.
