I'm new here (posting anyway), but have been lurking around for a few months, I have learned a tremendous amount of information from the members of the site.
I was quite a knuckle-head in my youth but have since been a model citizen, serving as a paratrooper in the Army and so on. My question, I was arrested twice, once when I was 14 another when I was 17. Both times I received probation paid a fine. I have checked the court, DA's office, juvenile detention and other that these various offices referred me to, believe me spent a lot of time on the phone, no where can anyone find a record that I was ever arrested. I am getting a letter from the juvenile courts that states they do not have any record of my arrest or disposition of the cases, will this be sufficient? This occurred in Louisiana.
I know I am supposed to submit the documents with the application but its been 29 years and just never kept up with the documents.
I would like to hear from those whom may have found themselves in this position, or anyone with knowledge on the subject, and what the outcome was.
Thanks in advance.

The letter from the court saying that they have no record of your arrest should be sufficient. I was in nearly the same position with a decades-ago arrest. I specifically got my document from the clerk of the court in the county where I was arrested.
Good luck.

Check with the court before sending your application. It may save you a lot of headache. Case in point, a buddy of mine listed an arrest he had 24 years ago. The county that we was arrested in had destroyed the documentation after 10 years. His license was held up because he listed it without providing documentation, and was unable to get the documentation because it did not exist.

I recall something about reporting any conviction/s or something in the 10 past years??? Look it up in your handy little manual and proceed accordingly.

I already sent in the application, I thought I would try and get any paperwork on the disposition of my offenses before they were requested.Oldgringo wrote:I recall something about reporting any conviction/s or something in the 10 past years??? I guess, if the are requested the only thing I can do is send in what paperwork I do get from the court stating there is no record, not sure what more I can do.
I do still have a couple of paragraphs in my original enlistment papers that gave a quick synopsis of the events. I did enclose that with a copy of my DD 214 with the application.
Guess I'll sit back and wait until I hear something from Austin.
I did not want to not list the offenses because they did happen, I know it was a long time ago but the truth is the truth and I know somewhere out there a record exists.
Thanks for the replies.

You are supposed to report all arrests for which you were fingerprinted and photographed, regardless of whether they were juvenile, expunged, or any other outcome.Oldgringo wrote:I recall something about reporting any conviction/s or something in the 10 past years??? Thirty years ago, the arrest record was a piece of cardboard in a file cabinet. If someone took it out and dumped it in the trash, that was really the end of the story. That is exactly what happened when I got my arrest record expunged.
Everything is computerized now, and records are automatically backed up and added to central databases. You can't be confident that anything that was entered into a computer is eradicated.

Thanks for the comment seamus, I know I got into trouble in my youth and was not going to NOT list it on the application. Thats probably the fact in my case, probably dumped in the trash. I'm from a small town in LA., I spoke to the guy in the court and he was going to give me everything I requested without even showing up in person with ID. I spoke with him on Friday and he was going to crank out a letter state there was not records on file and send it right out to me.
I appreciate everyones comments and would like to hear of any other experiances people have had getting through process.
