Yet another CHL qualifying question...

#1

Post by PolsVoice »

I'm fairly new in Texas and would like to get a CHL and see that they list class B misdemeanors as a disqualying offense.

When I lived in Alabama, I had my driving license revoked for failure to pay a speeding ticket in late October 2003. Money was tight (I was in college) and I tuition had trumps. Anywho, a couple months later I paid the ticket and had my license reinstated (2004). I was never arrested, although I'm sure a bench warrant for 'failure to appear' or something might have been issued. Don't know. I just paid the exorbitant fine and got on with my life.

Anywho, I know that driving offenses are listed as Class C misdemeanors in TX Law, but what about 'failure to pay' or whatnot? Also, even if it was an exclusionary offense, would the dating be from the date of the offense or the date of when I reinstated my license? Again, this is all in Alabama.

Thoughts?
5/21 took the CHL class.
5/23 mailed the packet in.
6/22 hadn't received packet or PIN, requested via email from DPS
7/08 changed addresses. Notified DPS, re-requested PIN
7/08 received PIN
7/25 still "Processing Application"
8/15 application approved... waiting on plastic.

Failure to pay a ticket does not increase the charge. Still a Class C. Does not have any effect on a Texas CHL.
