I saw JBirds shoot a 1911 in competition!

A beautiful Springfield 1911 with target sights. Extremely accurate pistol.

JBirds told us that we were witnessing history--his first ever use of a 1911 in competition. It was really something to see!

I wish I could've seen it. It was probably a once in a lifetime event. Did anyone get pics or video????

OMG, what was the date? We need to get it to seamusTX to make sure it's recorded for "This Day in History." "rlol"

If it was yesterday, it must have been the classifier...

Glad to see you back on the public board. Yes the Springer is a beautiful sweet shooting gun.

Ok, I will tell this story only once....LOL.

I decided to shoot my 1911 at PSC yesterday after a year or so of promising HighVelocity that I would do it. I promised a CDP scoresheet to him someday.

Stage 1: I had a single round cook off before the gun jammed. A lovely stovepipe followed by a series of violent tap-rack-clicks. After considering running back to my car and retrieving a hammer to insert the magazine the rest of the scenario was completed in about 25 seconds. I didn't miss anything, but it took an eternity....NO, two eternities. OK...stage 1 is over, this should get better.

Stage 2: The buzzer goes off and I grab the gun at what seemed like the bottom of a baseball bat during a childhood game of who goes next (I had to adjust my grip 6 times before firing a shot). I ran through the stage with my hand being chewed on by the slide with each pull of the trigger. I got done....found out that I dropped 22 points with a couple of failure to neutralize. At this point I could see blood on my left thumb and web of my right hand. That was the end of my day shooting! LOL. I had a great time visiting with everyone, but I will NEVER take that gun out of the safe again and would have chunked it over the berm if it had not been a gift to me from my father.

It was nice to have Glockenhammer standing there in complete understanding of what I had just experienced. He hated his just as much...LOL.

Whew....I was glad to be home next to my Glocks. I will never leave them again. My respect to all of you that compete well with the 100 year old technology. Me and the 1911 are like oil and water.

Jason

Way-to-go Jason! Not many people are willing to go to such lengths to face their enemy and admit defeat!

No WONDER when I poured over the PSC results from here near lovely Lake Buchanan, I didn't see your name and thought you must have shot the classifier, maybe deciding to go for your five-gun.

You know, you can still give HV a scoresheet.

You can always shoot CDP with a Glock 21!

Of course, doing so would put you at a huge competitive disadvantage.

:smilelol5:

Kidding!

I think we need to get you an STI Eagle 5.0 and let you try that again...

He could try an M&P 45. That is what I used to make Expert.

If he can give up his Glock, that would be a good idea!

;-)

(Now just watch BabyBird grow up to be a 1911 shootin' prodigy and put Robbie Leatham to shame.)

I knew it would be best to let JBirds give the details.

I've got to give him credit...I only shot my 1911 in a classifier and never did give it a go in competition. I'm just glad that it now has a good home and gets carried daily rather than collecting dust in the safe.

Jason,

When I was in college I had a "blind date" one time that went just about as well as your experience.

I didn't give up on "girls" because of it though. ;-)

Give it another try with a more reliable, better fitting 1911.
