West Houston hosting a 4th of July Blowout event

#1

Post by solaritx »

West Houston IDPA is proud to announce that our normal first Sat match in July falls on INDEPENDENCE DAY. Because of this, we are planning on the following: (This will be a regular event, not a sanctioned event)

1) We plan to raffle off a Charles Daly Combat shotgun. We also plan to raffle an AR conversion upper in .22. We will start selling tickets for these items shortly and the drawing will be at the 4th of July Shoot.
2) We plan on doing a drawing for a 10/22 that will be only for those that shoot the match. We also plan on doing a drawing for an additional AR conversion upper in .22 for only those that shoot the match.
3) free food (hotdogs) and drinks
4) Certificates for each winner of their class and division.
5) working on getting lapel/hat pins for all shooters
6) working on putting together a prize table

Match fee will be $25.00
Plan is to start at our regular time and be done early afternoon so that everyone can have a holiday evening with their families.

Plan on celebrating our INDEPENDENCE AS WELL AS OUR 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS. :patriot:

We fully understand the problem of heat at this match. For that reason, and because all of us are getting a little older and slower (except maybe Dillon) I have set up the match in the following manner:

1) there will be seven bays and seven scenarios
2) We will set up on Friday and SO's and some others that want may shoot on Friday as well. (I may limit the number, so if interested, get your names in early)
3) With the exception of the two end bays, all bays have some cover with either trees or Phil's Range "sheds". In each of these, there will be iced water (free) and plan on some Poweraid at the middle bay.
4) MOST IMPORTANT: this will be an open squad shoot. This means that if someone needs a break, they can take one, cool off, get hydrated, and resume AT THEIR PACE. Some will shoot this quicker and some slower. No problem. THis is how many major Regionals and State matches are done.

One should not enjoy this shoot because they are concerned with the heat and not holding up. Take your time, stay hydrated, and enjoy the match.

ALSO: We will not be using the middle bay for scenarios. We will be cooking there, it will be a safe area AND WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A SIDE MATCH.

Side Match: TEXAS STAR
Cost: $5.00 per shoot (shooter may shoot as many times as he/she wants....it' s just an additional $5.00 each time <g>

The money from the side shoot will go into a pot. 3 shooters that shoot the side match will come away with money. First winner: fastest time to complete the star with all 5 plates shot off wins 15% of the total purse. TWO OTHER SHOOTERS THAT SHOOT THE SIDE MATCH WILL BE RANDOMLY SELECTED AND EACH OF THEM WILL WIN 15% OF THE PURSE ALSO. (note: 15% will be rounded up to the next higher dollar amount if needed)

This means that not only will the top shooter win money, but ALSO EVERYONE DOWN TO A NOVICE SHOOTER HAS A CHANCE AT WINNING MONEY BY SHOOTING THE TEXAS STAR!!!!!!!!

Also: we are currently raffling off a 10/22 rifle and a AR .22 conversion kit (you can buy raffle tickets from any officer, OR ON OUR WEBSITE WITH PAYPAY or at the shoot)

We will also be giving away a Charles Daly Combat Shotgun and another AR .22 conversion Kit. THESE WILL BE GIVEN AWAY BY RANDOM DRAWING FOR THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO SHOT THE MATCH.

You can register on line at http://www.whidpa.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and you can either mail a check or pay with PayPal on line. Preregister and the match INCLUDING A CHANCE AT THE SHOTGUN or THE AR KIT is only $25. Day of match or after cut off date is $35.

FOR THOSE THAT MIGHT LIKE TO SHOOT THE MATCH BUT CAN'T BE THERE ON SAT....THERE ARE SOME SLOTS TO SHOOT ON FRIDAY WITH THE SO'S. PRE-REGISTER AND INDICATE THAT YOU WANT TO SHOOT ON FRIDAY. Slots for shooting Friday will be filled by shooter's pre-registration date.

We are also looking for a few additional experienced SO's

Let's see you there.

Do shooters have to be IDPA members?

I'm still working out my Independence Day weekend plans but this sounds like fun.

It is an IDPA match. The IDPA rule is that you can shoot one match with us without an IDPA number.

Safe shooters ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.

Hope this works into your plans

(This will be a regular event, not a sanctioned event)
If it isn't a sanctioned match it shooters shouldn't have to be IDPA members or have it count as their first match.

Not sure what you are saying?

A sanctioned match is a Regional, State or National IDPA event.

Regular matches like our wed night IDPA shoots or our first Sat of the month match are IDPA events are IDPA events, just not sanctioned events. Thus, we let people that are not IDPA members shoot, even if they are not IDPA members. The 4th of July match IS our first Sat of the Month event.....like every other month, but this time we are doing the match up bigger and better because it is our county's birthday. Because of that, we are giving guns away as "birthday presents".

To make it clear: Non-IDPA individuals are more than welcome to come and participate, as long as they can shoot in a safe manner. If it's your first time, let us know and we will try and pair you up with an experienced shooter. Also be sure to let the SO's know so that we can assist you in shooting safely and having fun.

just a reminder. You have until June 24th to register for the WHIDPA 4th of July match and pay only $25.00 for a match with random gun giveaway. AFTER the 24th, shooters may still register on line at http://www.whidpa.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and still pay on line with Pay-pal or send the money in....or bring it to the match, but the cost goes up to $35.00 for any entry after the 24th.

See all of you there. :patriot:

Garry: Looks like the start time is an hour earlier than your normal monthly match. Is that correct? Should first-time WHIDPA shooters plan on being at Impact Zone by 7:30? Just wantin' to make everything as clear as possible for folks. ;-)

When is the bulk of the setup being done, and do you need any volunteers to help with that?

Not sure where it's posted that we will be starting early? In my first post I indicated that start time would be our regular time, which is 9am. I would like people there around 8, if at all possible so that we can get everything ready, shooter's packets, etc and safety briefing and hammer down at 9am. With open squads, should be able to get things done as early as possible.

I plan on going out to the range Thursday evening and starting some prelim work and want the SO's and those shooting on Friday to be there no later than 8am on Friday. With enough hands, one hour or so and set up. Hope to get the SO's and those shooting on Friday with hammer down by 9:30 if at all possible.

It may not be a Regional, but it's sure shaping up like a fun match.

Everyone that signs up on line will also be getting an e-mail in the near future with additional information as well as the scenarios.

The calendar on the WHIDPA Website spots the match time at 8:00 to 17:00, so I thought you might be starting earlier than normal.

But that's all cleared up now.

Hope you get a big turnout...and maybe weather that's under 99 degrees.

I put in the paperwork for 75-78 degrees and a cooling breeze. I put it though the normal government channels and well?

I did get a note from our current President, and he said not to worry, change was coming. I understand that to mean that it will not be so hot and humid.....RIGHT?

I would like to thank each and everyone that came out and shot with us. We had a great group of guys and gals that participated in our match and I would also like to thank our SO staff and scorekeeping staff. Scores were posted less than 30 minutes after the last shot.

Thanks to everyone for helping tear down and clean up. It just goes to show what a great group of IDPA shooters we have in the area. :patriot:

I had a blast out there. A lot of hard work went into setting it up and running it. There were some awesome stages out there.
