Looking For Dallas Area IDPA

I personally prefer a club to play by the rules of the game they are part of whether it is IPSC or IDPA or ICORE etc. IF I go for IDPA I want to shoot IDPA. If I wanted to shoot IPSC I would go to an IPSC club. That said I don't have any issues with clubs relaxing rules for new shooters to give them an opportunity to learn the rules without being beat up with the rules.

The other side of the story, is that if you shoot at DPC, better watch your Muzzle. If pointed anywhere higher than the burn, after the first warning you are out. At North Texas Practical shooters (IPSC/USPSA), if you point your firearm 90 degree to the down range while moving sideways on the course of fire, or while reloading, you are out!.

CCIDPA is a new shooter friendly club with over 100 members.....Our main goal is to help new shooters get involved with shooting, to have fun, to learn the rules over time, and to get them involved with CCIDPA/IDPA. We will start you from scratch by helping you with gun, ammo, and gear selection. We will get you squared away on the rules, teach you everything we know and have you shooting as well as you can in no time while having a great time. We do follow IDPA rules which keeps the playing field level. We do not have Range Nazis.....they are not allowed. The members of our club are all on board with making new shooters feel welcome. New to us experienced IDPA shooters are welcome as well. CCIDPA will host Safety Officer (SO) classes taught by IDPA Safety Officer Instructor (SOI) CJ Pruszynski. He is one of the best there is. We host training classes taught by Smith & Wesson sponsored shooter and trainer Gordon Carrell. He is one of the best there is.

so how did it go? i am dying to do some shooting, and with the waitlist i am on at DPC it liiks liek it will be a while, and this IDPA looks to be a great way to get some range time while learning something.

I went with Brian two weeks ago and watched. IMO it was worth it, because I got to observe without suffering from performance anxiety. I'll be going again some time in July, and I expect to participate this time. I'm waiting for my IWB holster and dual mag pouch to come in so I can be rigged up and ready to go.

TAW is a timed steel match with multiple stages and is really a lot of fun. I hope to get back this summer and shoot some, but my schedule does not fit at the moment. The DPC website should have more info on the matches and when they are held (usually Tuesday's starting at 6:30pm sharp).

I am an IDPA member possibly relocating to the Fort Worth area for work. I looked at the 3 clubs listed and it seems Cross Timbers IDPA will be the closest to me. Anyone ever attended thier events and have any feedback? It seems all the feedback I have seen so far is for collins County and DPC.

would the cheap xd gear be good enough for a first timer trying to get his feet wet in IDPA? would like to (read: wife would prefer) i not dump a bunch of cash on a new hobby i am not even sure i will like. thank you.

The standard XD gear should be fine. As long as the holster doesn't hold the gun more than 3/4" away from your body.

Hopefully I'll be making it to one of these in the next couple weeks. The summer has been busier than I expected.
