The blonde newbie with a 1911 Kimber. In answer to Compvest's question, both. :D Planning on being there Saturday morning too. I have a lot to learn though.

TxDrifter was in my squad, and shot very well for his first time shotting IDPA, especially since we were shooting strong hand/weak hand; had a popper; and additionally used some targets with painted hard cover; things a "paper popper" rarely sees. He had some trouble with his gun, but after realizing that it had to be cleared "on the clock" did very well. IDPA can be a learning laboratory, finding out what equipment works and what does not. I would welcome him on my squad any time.

Thanks for the support. :tiphat:

I couldn't believe with my mag dropping out and shooting weak hand that I had no points down on that one. A long time on the clock though. I imagine with time and practice it will improve, but for now I will chalk it up to beginner's luck. After examining my gear, I found out what may have been part of my problem. First was new mags and I used the thinner of the two bumper pads which means it sets nearly flush to the magwell so I was just not seating them well enough. Second the magwell screw has worked loose, probably not attributing to that, but it is still something to be sure is maintained correctly. Probably the biggest though was being new at this and controlling the nervous energy, and I do mean nervous, not adrenaline rush.

I came to learn and I definitely am. The only way to improve is challenge yourself.

Don't wait. Just think of all the fun practice carrying you can get in before your plastic arrives.

Nope. Don't wait. And don't make the mistake I did the first time I showed up at a TTS match...BRING YOUR GUN!--don't think you'll "just watch.." :banghead:

Now that I've just given my identity away to a few of you...

Needless to say I came to shoot the second time, and learned a good deal about what did and didn't work for me. I'll be there Wednesday too ready to try out my "lessons learned."

It's a great group. I was instantly made to feel like an insider, and I learned a lot! Everyone should try it once.

You do learn a lot. For which I am very thankful. Watching some of these guys us newbies seem slow a molasses, but time will get us there eventually. Everyone has been very encouraging and willing to help you learn as well. If anyone comes out this Wednesday we were reminded to bring flashlights as it will be low light scenarios.

Alright well I plan on going out there with my father for the first time this coming Wednesday. It's listed on the schedule as a "Carry Gun Fun “BUG” Match" but I don't have the necessary equipment to shoot my carry gun (S&W 642) at this match. Do you think they'd have a problem with me bringing out a Beretta M9? It'll be my first time ever with IDPA style shooting so it's not like I'm looking for a high score

You can shoot any IDPA legal gun or back-up gun 32 caliber or greater at our BUG match. So just come out and join us. These will be quick fairly short range scenarios. Great for getting started in IDPA.

For the "Carry Gun Match" you do not need the usual equipment (holster, mag pouch, etc.), as you can either start from low ready for pick up the gun from a barrel, etc.
