Stevie:
I knew you weren't feeling well at the TSRA convention, but Double Pneumonia? WOW!!! Take extra good care of yourself. My thoughts and prayers are speeding their way to you as I write this.

Got an update from Steve today. He is doing much better and on the road to recovery. He hopes to be out of the hospital and heading home soon.
He wants to thank everyone for the prayers, and to please keep them coming until he is back on his feet.

Great news!
Re: Prayers for member stevie_d_64
New update from Steve; he is still in the hospital and they are working on getting the pneumonia cleared so they can get his diabetes under control again. He hopes to be out in 3-4 days. Please keep the prayers going for him.

Re: Prayers for member stevie_d_64
Thanks folks...Just checking in real quick...It means alot to be able to get back in and post a quick note of thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers...
Still not quite out of the woods yet...But we'll get there...Got a few followups with the doctors who took pity on me and decided to give me a helping hand...
I'm sorry if I wasn't able to participate any better at the convention so long ago...It really is a fog trying to even remember any of it...
I'll tell y'all some things so you'll know...I drove up to Dallas for the convention kinda feeling ok, a little cough that had been nagging me for a week or so prior...I attributeed that to a flare up odf bronchitis...Man, was I wrong on that...But getting to see some of y'all Friday night lifted me up a bit and I got up with Dad Saturday ready to have to usual fun we have had the last few years...By the time Saturday's lunch with the governor was over, things began to blur a bit and I went up to rest a little while and come back down to buy at least a little something for the trouble and the trip up north...Never made it back down...
I called Wife Unit in Houston and managed to tell her to just get up here and pick me up and get me back home...There was no way I was going to be able to get back south without help...She got up to Mesquite about 9pm and we got back to to Houston (home) about 4am...We had to stop in Huntsville (I think) at a rest stop to just keep ourselves from an accident...She was so tired, and I felt horrible...
We finally got up around 10am Sunday and we went to a nieghborhood clinic where I got the usual fixes for bronchitis and a 5 day pack of antibiotics to see if that would clear this thing up...The day 3 pill was the last of that lot, and I finally decided to get to the ER (the best decision I ever made), the attendents were top notch, all I had to do was walk one time to the chair to be assessed...
103 fever
blood sugar was 509 (yep, I typed that right)
BP was a little high, but not that bad...
They took a chest xray, and that was that...I wasn't going home for a while...
This was actually a total shock, as the problem all along was pnuemonia that had been brewing for at least 2-3 weeks...This is a very deceptive condition...And it got me...So going thru the process, they quickly determined that my condition was complicated by a type II diabetes that had probably been undiagnosed for years...
So thru some steriods, antibiotics and respiratory treatments over about 10 days, they determined that I was ok to go home and for these last 3 days I've been taking my meds, hopefully well enough to keep the healing process going... and resting as much as possible...Strange thing though, the meds used to take care of the pnuemonia, that raises your blood sugar to staggering levels...But it can be countered...
One rule of thumb I want to prescribe to those who may not know...
Never pricketh thy trigger finger...It just throws it all off in the end...
I've lost about 20 pounds in this process, and I plan to take off about another 30-40 by the end of the year...I do not plan to keep having to inject the insulin much after that...Because I've learned you do not want your body to get used to this, you want it to produce it naturally...
If anything I am going to become an expert on this and I plan on beating this into submission...Not the other way around...
Again, thanks for all the well wishes, thoughts and prayers...It really does help...

Thank you for the update. It is so good to see a post from you! The convention went on without you but it wasn't nearly as fun.
You will stay in my prayers until you win.
