I thought I would be smart......

I figured I would give the DPS a jumpstart on my app as I have an arrest record. I went to the county and got all of the info about my history and paid for certified copies, this was $84.00. I submitted the app, background, and fingerprints about 2 weeks prior to LTC class. Well I have learned there is no advantage as your application will not start until CHL100 is received. I am thinking what if the DPS had a window in the driver's license office to issue LTC's. This could certainly help. You submit application online, pay your money, go get printed, take class, and then go to the DPS office to get your license approved and sent to print. Similar to the DL process.

Application 2/10/2016
Fingerprints 2/15/2016
Background Check 2/20/2016
CHL100 Submitted 3/5/2016 after taking class
Confirmation 3/5/2016
Headstart.........nope.....

:iagree:

The same for renewals, why is it more of a chore than your DL?

Why not just add it as an endorsement on your DL and renew at the same time? Talk about efficient.

Ouch. Court docs don't have to be certified...

Look at it this way, instead of DPS finding the arrests and then asking for the dispositions after you submitted the CHL-100 and application, they now have that and it may not delay the processing. Being proactive is better than reactive (IMHO)

I think that was discussed before OC passed. Not every gun owner -- especially if CCing -- wants the bank teller or liquor store cashier to know that they have a LTC.

This was the plan.

The application says certified court docs. I need them for something else, also. Not too big of a deal.

DL doesn't require a background check...

I understand, I'm just thinking that we could certainly streamline the process. I can get my FBI and Texas FACT background in a matter of about 3 days for both.
