I am new to the forum and I am happy that I found such an informative website. Here is my time, now keep in mind that I am active duty military; so I had to physically mail my documents to DPS.
3/9 – Priority mailed application to DPS (included was a copy of a passport photo etc. since I am not a Texas resident and do not have a TX driver’s license).
3/23 – Status changed on DPS site with options to change my address etc.
3/25 – Called DPS and they confirmed that my application was approved and complete and that card is in the mail
I am thinking that since I am active duty military, the background check would go pretty quick. On the flip side I was thinking that since I was not a TX resident and did not have a TX driver’s license that would slow down the process versus someone already have their picture “already in the system”?
I will post again when my plastic arrives in the mail.

Re: Timeline for active duty military
Being in the military probably had no effect on the DPS Criminal History search. It's all computerized - an operator in Austin puts in your information, and the computer checks the DPS database for the CCH (computerized criminal history) and through the NLETS network to check the FBI database for your national profile.
So, even if you had the illustrious TS/ESI, you still gotta wait like the rest of us National Agency Chex.

I mailed my paperwork off on 3/5 and still haven't heard anything. I guess you're lucky maybe I'll give them a call.

Happy to report that my plastic arrived in the mail today!! Not a bad turn around IMO with DPS getting my application on 3/11Carolina Cajun wrote:I am new to the forum and I am happy that I found such an informative website.
