CHL a crock
I did my CHL training back in early October of 2014, & my neighbor & his wife (no arrests EVER in all of life) did it several months before that. Yet, no mail, no status, no anything...ever! Even inquiring, the answer is basically "pending." It's just a fake license to trick a tax out of the people, even if they don't have a criminal record, but you never do actually get your constitutional right. I'm sad & sorry to have invested into this. I've been almost killed, robbed, multiple times....yet my government won't let me protect myself...even with a background check & paying them money! I say, don't waste your money on a license that people no longer receive. If you want protection, then I'm afraid that the only way to not get ripped off out of hard earned money is to go and learn MMA to a black belt+ level...cuz the 2nd amendment is gone for good
Re: CHL a crock
it takes some time but you should of heard something by now -- get with your state rep and tell them, they will contact and see what the problem is -- friend of mine did that long time ago when he filled and they called him back later that same day and told him it was done and sent it over night to him -- i felt the same way your feeling now when they first started chl's cause i didn't like that they could deny you and not refund a dime so i thought and felt was just a money grab but it isnt -- its just a process of waiting like i mention contact your rep and tell them

Most people are getting them very quickly, usually about a month. Contact you rep as suggested above.

Re: CHL a crock
Mine has been 65 days and status up dated on Wednesday but still no plastic yet. I had my fingerprints and application in 2 weeks before I took the class hoping it would speed up the process but it didn't help at all. Some people that took the class with me had all kinds of problems with there paperwork fingerprinting background issues and still got there license a week ago. So I sure feel your pain
Good luck

it does seem like forever waiting on it...the libertarian in me agrees that we shouldn't have to pay for a god given right, but the family man in me believes that being in jail is bad for the family...then again our constitution is just really old toilet paper by this point....

Well, that's one way to introduce yourself.
I know that other licenses (non-CHL) are being held on the federal level for more than 90 days. It's not a grand conspiracy, it's just under-funded government staffing and bureaucracy.
You've called to check status, can you figure out where the status is being held up?
All 3 of you are have been waiting since 10/2014? That doesn't seem right. Did you, perhaps, use the same instructor? What's the common thread?

mistakes happen, things get lost. Its on you to pursue it. Keep it up!
When I did mine it went through Harris county which was notorious for following up promptly...never. After six months and my wife getting here's after only a few weeks (

On the positive renewals always seem very fast.
Re: CHL a crock
It won't help with current delays, but on the positive side, a House Bill has been introduced to get an 'electronic' notice made available as soon as their approval process is done. http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLook ... ill=HB1154Cedar Park Dad wrote:Call DPSRonJeanJr wrote:Okay, I will try that at lunch today & thank you!

Re: CHL a crock
My sons got their licenses ahead of me by several weeks. My youngest son applied a week after I did and got his something like four weeks before I got mine. Fortunately, he's a real trooper. I'm so proud of him. He was able to give his Dad grief, week after week, without ever repeating himself or tiring of his burden. What a guy!
Each time I called the DPS office they told me it was pending, or that everything looked good as soon as the processing department attached my CHL-100 form.
The last time I called, they looked a little deeper. Their logs showed they had received my CHL-100, so there was no need to ask me for it. On the other hand, they didn't have my CHL-100 so my application couldn't jump the last hurdle. Somewhere along the line it got lost. Catch-22, I never heard they needed anything more from me.
A processing specialist gave me an internal email address, I sent a PDF scan of my CHL-100 (the same file I'd originally sent through their web site), and in about ten minutes I got a reply saying my license would be mailed on Tuesday - this all happened on a Thursday or a Friday.
The following Friday I had my card in hand and my gun discreetly concealed.
CHL processing may be a profit center for the State. I don't know. I am pretty convinced it's not a scam and that almost all law enforcement officers respect a CHL as a sort of probable cause to recognize you might be a good citizen. Not proof, it's not going to get you out of tickets or change the application of the law, but it may calm the default tone of the conversation.
I don't like licensing a Constitutional right. It's wrong. On the other hand, not everybody should have a gun. Put me in charge and I'd repeal every scrap of gun control ever enacted, but it would be at the price of those folks who shouldn't have guns arming themselves until due process can identify them.
I think my way would put some individuals at risk but would better preserve the Republic. Your mileage may vary, just my opinion, but I would be comfortable with individual risk for a stronger Republic.
If you still don't have your license after all this time, call and ask to speak to a processing specialist.

Re: CHL a crock
I'm confused whether the OP actually applied to DPS and had fingerprints done, or simply took the class and thought that was the whole process. I have my own objections to the cost and hassles of Texas licensing, but I think DPS is doing as well as can be reasonably expected given what the legislature has passed into law.
