I'm still waiting for my CHL as I'm in the "under review" period.

For those who already got their CHL, where did you first carry to?

And for those who are about to get it, what's your plan?

For me, I'll probably wear it the first time walking the dog around the neighborhood. I live in a "developing" area. But I first need to develop skills to manage a concealed weapon (as opposed to just having a good time at the range).

First official place I carried to was Walmart. I did the ol' wally-walk which has been described here. I was pretty nervous at first. I had this thought in my daydreams that Walmart has metal detectors that notify security when a carrier has entered and they'd watch your every move. This is purely an entertaining thought that is easily shot down by one simple reason - they're too cheap lol. It's a good experiment, if you want to call it that. You'll learn as time goes on what to expect and what to do in different situations. For example, bending over to pick up dropped things can be an art depending on what/where you carry. Its not official until you do the Wally Walk.

First place I went was IKEA in Frisco. There was a certain satisfaction walking armed into a place where the clientele probably tend to be a little left leaning.

I took my wife out to dinner, then Kroger, then Wally Walk.. sure was nice. I enjoyed it I had my Virginia non-re chl first, I never carried under that chl. It was ony a few weeks difference between Texas and Virginia. I wanted Texas before I carried. I travel to Vinginia alot

Just made my first outing. Planned to get milk and do the Wally Walk but passed Academy first. Stopped in. While at Academy saw the pink stock blued barreled Ruger 10/22 that has been on the wish list of Daughter of Airborneveteran for quite some time. The folks at Academy had already told me that they get that particular model rarely that it might be better to find one online so I was pleasantly surprised. Early Christmas shopping today for one of my kids.

I can now report that my local Academy takes me about a half an hour to make a firearms purchase with or without a CHL.

I've been carrying around the house to get comfortable. As soon as I get plastic, I'll probably carry to wherever I need to go. It may be just to and from work (but not in). Depends upon the day.

I have a long way to go, I'm still waiting for my status to be updated to all documents received.

I did the wally walk also, right of passage for new Texas CHL holders. I find myself checking my shirt making sure it has not risen up all the time. Watch how you go to retrieve your wallet or get anything out of your pockets. Start taking notice at store entrances for the 30.06 signs forbidding you to enter armed.

When I bend over or squat I place my arm over my grip to prevent printing and hold on to the bottom of my shirt, otherwise it will hang on my grip and print.

ARMANIUS, I highly suggest you start carrying around the house as much as possible as well as in your vehicle. Keep your firearm with you 24/7 on your own property and disarm in public, locking it in your vehicle (maybe get a vehicle safe). By the time you get your license, carrying will be second nature.

RX8er, that's a great video! I watched it last year while waiting on my plastic and found it very helpful and entertaining. Thanks again for sharing.

First place I carried was dinner at Clear Spring...then my wife wanted to stop at Walmart. I told her about the WallyWalk and she thought I was retarded. I have been carrying everywhere but out in public for over a month now so I was comfortable with it in WallyWorld...lol.

ARMANIUS, I highly suggest you start carrying around the house as much as possible as well as in your vehicle. Keep your firearm with you 24/7 on your own property and disarm in public, locking it in your vehicle (maybe get a vehicle safe). By the time you get your license, carrying will be second nature.

I got my plastic in the mail about three hours prior to seeing my daughter off to her senior prom...talk about jumpin' into the fryin' pan...lol

We, then, went to dinner then to the WallyWalk before mentioned...
