Thought I would share my timeline as well.......


Class: 7/23/12
Online application: 7/30/12
Fingerprints: 8/1/12
Paperwork Overnighted: 8/2/12
Delivered and signed for: 7:56AM 8/3/12

The state already has run 2 background checks and has 2 sets of fingerprints on file for other licenses. I also have a Federal TWIC card which requires a background check and fingerprinting (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). Hopefully these previous Guvment checks will help expedite the CHL process.

It may, but I would not count on it, I have had nine background checks in the last 30 years. I am in day 54 and still waiting on my CHL.

clean record you are looking at 3 to 4 weeks minimum. but, that's far less time than it used to take!!

My check to the mandatory fingerprinting company wasn't deposited until 11 days after my fingerprints were taken. I suspect this might have something to do with the delay in DPS processing our files and updating the status website. What If they don't send the fingerprints in until after the check clears and if they don't deposit the check for 10 days? In the good ol days when state agencies required fingerprinting you could go to any one of the local police departments and pay them a nominal fee and get great service. Now we have affirmative action agendas steering business to exclusive vendors who could care less about customer service because they know they are guaranteed to get all of the business.

Gives you all kinds of warm fuzzies about Obamacare doesn't it?

Your status will change to Mailed tomorrow. I was told by a DPS customer service rep. that the mailed status simply means that your plastic has been put into an envelope and sent to the DPS mailroom. After this, the mail dept. usually takes about 2 days to get your envelope to the USPS. But remember, the website is on a 12 or so hour delay. Your plastic was actually sent to the mailroom yesterday. Soooo your letter should be sent out on Friday and you will probably recieve your plastic on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
