Dropping off docs at drop box

Just curious if anyone else dropped off their documents at the drop box at the DPS center in Austin. I managed to find it with the help of friend who'd done it that way a few years ago when he got his CHL. They have changed the location since he did his application. There is no longer anyone there to receive your application, there is just a drop box that is labeled for CHL application documents. I would say that it is rather hidden. It is on the back side of the building on 108 Denson Dr. in Austin, TX. The lady I spoke to inside the door on the front side of the building was very helpful and even gave me an envelop so I could drop everything off in the drop box (I thought I would be handing it to someone in person). Its nice to see a public employee who is friendly and helpful.
I dropped it off on 5/10/12, no update on the website yet, but that seems to be par for the course from what I'm gathering here.

I mailed my docs on the 10th in Austin. Will be interesting to parallel our status. I did the prints at the 108 Denson on the 9th, didn't know about the drop box. Could have saved on postage.

My status finally updated today on the DPS website. I'm in "Background Check : Under review " now.

To keep anxiety down, I have not been checking status updates daily. I have used others' time table to estimate when each step should be happening. With that, I checked yesterday and receipt and background check displayed. Not sure exactly which date either listed, but the needle is moving! I will check back in two weeks to see if background check is complete.

Interesting. So it seems that dropping the docs off at the drop box didn't give me any advantage at all.

Well it sort of did. I mailed mine 4/24 and they received it 4/30. So you got a few day advantage of not relying on snail mail.

10001110101, understood. My comment was based on the fact that Valor mailed his stuff on the same day I dropped mine off and his status switched to "background check: under review" on the say day (possibly before) mine did.

I'm not a native either, but I have lived here for 12 years so perhaps that has an effect.
