The DPS started my BG review on 2/15. I have heard that if you live in Harris County (Houston area) that the wait can take forever. Has anyone else heard or experienced this? Any info is really appreciated!!

Unless something has changed, there is no difference in Houston (Harris County) and Travis County or anywhere else in Texas.
Location should not be a factor in the it takes.
what may be an issue is if you have a lot of jobs or residences in the past 5 years, or if you have any criminal history that they need check out.

Thanks for the reply. It's not the jobs or residences....just one of each in the last 5 years. As far as criminal history.... I've never even had so much as a speeding ticket. Maybe I just got unlucky & was put on someone's desk that likes to take a lot of vacation. :banghead:

DPS started my background review on 2/5 (according to the computer at least). I live in Harris county and have been arrested twice in the past 10 years :grumble. Nevertheless, my status has updated to "Manufacture Pending" today. It seems like they get updated in batches; I bet you're in that same batch. We just gotta wait for them to update the computer.

So my inability to be patient just got the best of me. I called the DPS & the lady pulled up my drivers license number. She did verify that the background check was started on 02/15 & said it takes 60 days for first time applicants. I asked if there was a problem & she told me again it would be 60 days. So I guess I'm stuck in waiting mode for another month & a half. :cryin

That's odd. I've seen other folks on this forum that have received their license within thirty days of it (*their packet) being received, and within the past couple months too.

I know...I really don't get it. I guess it just comes down to whose desk you get up on. All I know for sure is my record couldn't be any cleaner. So there's not a problem with that. I wish I knew someone on the "inside" that could tell me exactly how the applications are handled. Don't guess any of you would have connections?? Lol

I think that lady is lying. She didn't actually pull up your account. She just gave you an automated response.

Their FAQ sections says to not call or email for the first 60 days. When you do, you tend to get the answer you listed. However, if you were nice to her, you might notice a budge soon!

Yeah, I know I was supposed to wait the 60 days but I've seen so many people whose info was received after mine & their just waiting for the mail, I couldn't help but call. I was very nice to the lady I talked to so hopefully that will help.

I called after only 3 weeks and talked to a very polite gentleman. He pulled up my info (based on TXDL#, last 4 digits of my SSN, and name) and told me everything looks good, the background check is complete but the computer needs to be updated, and i did indeed submit all the necessary paperwork for my criminal background. he also said that everything was non-disqualifying.

oddly enough, the online status switched to "Background Check Complete, Manufacturing Pending" a few days after the call.

I anticipate it to be updated to "Mailed" on Monday evening. :D
