Anxiously awaiting my CHL...

I am new, so I would like to share how I found my way here...
Although I have been married to an amazing man (that makes me feel completely protected) for nearly 18 years, I recently decided that I would like to be able to protect myself, my children, and him, if needed. In July of 2010, he was called to active duty and deployed to Iraq in December.
I spent most of the next 15 months alone and sleeping with his Glock 19... I will be real honest... I don't think I had shot that gun more than a couple of times, but it made me feel very secure just to know it was there. We live where we don't even see our next door neighbors, so the nights were always a little scary for me. After his safe return last October,
I told him I would like to get my CHL. He needed to redo his since he let it expire, so for Christmas, I paid for his class, he let me pick out my very own pistol, and we started the process of getting our CHLs.
In the process of doing a lot of reading and trying to gain more knowledge about being a CHL holder, I discovered this forum. I have truly enjoyed reading the posts here and have found a lot of answers to questions that have crossed my mind. It's good to know that there is somewhere to come when more questions arise.
~MMG
PS I have a confession... I already purchased another gun... a Ruger LC9... a girls gotta have the right gun for every outfit, right???

Welcome abroad!
Glad you found your way here. Your last line reminds me of the opening segment of parts of Tom Gresham's GunTalk. It is a female that says something to the effect of, "A girl always needs something in basic black, like an AR15". Yeah, different guns for different outfits.
and yes, the pun was intended, and intended to be lighthearted.

Good for you!!
Dear wife (just received her CHL) has 'claimed' our little Sig Sauer P238, so that one isn't usually available for me to carry
. Looks like I need to go handgun shopping.
Get to the range as often as possible and put a few hundred rounds through each handgun you will be using. We try to get to the range two or three times a month as a family event and she enjoys our range time (and is getting a little better with each box of ammo we go through.) I've also been teaching her how to field strip and clean each handgun.

Welcome! I have an LC9 on my wish list also! I shot one a couple weeks ago and loved it!
Others have thanked your husband for his service, but I wanted to thank you, too, because without the support of his loved ones, his job would be much much harder.
My daughter leaves for BCT in just a few months (National Guard).

Welcome, MMG! Glad you joined the forum and are pursuing your CHL. Looks like you are close to getting your plastic -- congratulations!
Thanks, also, to your husband for his service! I hope you and he get plenty of opportunities to get some good practice and fun time in at the range.
Husband home safe, new gun, plastic arriving soon... life is good!

Tell your wife congrats! I am sure you are not too upset about having to shop for another handgun
My husband and I have been doing a lot of practicing together. We are blessed enough to have a little land where it is legal to shoot, so we can just go out in the front yard to practice whenever we want.
He has also been teaching me how to field strip and clean both my handguns. I would have never guessed this could be so much fun. Wish I had started years ago.

Excellent! We're on acreage and shoot on the property sometimes but it freaks out the animals (we raise blackbuck antelope). Range day is when we shop, eat lunch - it's turned into our 'date' day.
