my own personal waiting thread - help needed/welcome

new here. got recommended here by /k/. i'm a board junkie so i think i'll lurk here often from now on

so i took my class this last Sunday (06/12/11). everything went well and the instructor set me up with a good packet complete with passport photos. i held off on doing anything online because of an abundance of caution. sent off the packet with my money order the next day.
so am i right in assuming that all i need to do now is wait for the confirmation that DPS needs me to take fingerprints? kinda sucks that they don't just e-mail you. also when does the info get listed online in the tracking page and how do i get there?

thanks for the help!

on another note, what did y'all get on your shooting portion. i got 249/250. only shot that wasn't right in the vital organs was a shot towards the lower abdomen/kidney area.

Welcome to the forum.

I forget what I got on the shooting, I did a real tight group , then at the farthest point, the lady next to me rapid fired ... I had already done well enough to pass, so I fired a little faster than I should have (Instructor pointed out the "no rapid firing" sign .... :totap: ) I still got the second best in class on shooting score though my last shots were spaced out more..

Years ago, I paid online, they sent me a package I took to class, Instructor provided packets to everyone else, photographed and fingerprinted us all ... it's all different now, so I don't know answers to your questions, sorry..... but welcome :tiphat:

First off welcome. Second, why the caution of doing everything online?? You do realize it's 2011 right?? You should've already done your fingerprints. Why have you waited?? I did my packet and fingerprints months before I took the actual class. The status will be listed as soon as they receive ALL of your required information. Go to this link to see your status: https://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/txapp/txdps/chl/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I shot a 246 at the range. Not bad for the first time shooting my gun in about 2 years. Hope this information helped.

They will take a couple weeks after receiving your packet to post and update.

Not sure how it works by snail mail. I did all mine online. Filled out the app, and you can make an appointment for your fingerprints by following the link on the DPS site, or go here: http://www.l1enrollment.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm not sure, but I would think that you would need to wait until you are in the system before you get your prints done.

5 days. good to know.

as for the whole doing it online thing, i just didn't do it before the class out of an abundance of caution. maybe it's a general mistrust of all govt institutions and lack of faith in their communication. i just wasn't going to pay the $140 and find out i couldn't take the class or was ineligible, etc.

i'll keep this thread updated as i hear back. seem like not many people do it the way i did it so the info should be of use.

Or something. Most people were saying it was taking like 2 weeks after receipt to even show a status. I was like what the heck?? I'm hoping it should be ready for manufacture by the time I get back from VA next Tuesday.

so the online system is finally showing that they have my payment and info. only took 8 days fyi and i submitted the packet through snail mail!
should i wait and see what their mail says regarding my fingerprints or should i go ahead and schedule an appointment with the fingerprint company ASAP. will they know how and where to send it and how to get my name associated with my prints if i go in in the next few days even though i haven't gotten my confirmation?

any help is greatly appreciated!

also I have a question about the status page. it says that my background is under review. i go in for fingerprints tomorrow so are they waiting on the fingerprints to BEGIN a background check or are they working on the background check WHILE they wait on my fingerprints?

thanks again for the help

Well...you have created yourself a longer wait by not fingerprinting at the time you sent your packet..thats for sure. Online is secure. From the time they received my packet, till my license was mailed, was 66 days. Don't wait for letters from them, just get the documents and send them. I have heard of people waiting 3 months + by doing it the way you have chosen. They will need EVERYTHING to start, so you may be causing yourself undue waiting time! Anyway, good luck!!

i'm not in the process of mailing them my packet, waiting for confirmation, then mailing pictures, waiting for confirmation, etc.
that would be retarded and we both know that. from what i can see the only things on the website that aren't green are my fingerprints and background check so i don't see how doing it online would have saved me any time. it's only been a little over two weeks.
i got my fingerprints taken today so hopefully it won't take more than 48 hours for that to show up online.

my last post was just wondering if they needed my fingerprints to BEGIN a background check (because the wording is "under review" online) or if the two were independent processes altogether. since you don't seem to know what you're talking about, i'll consider that question still unanswered. my background just showed clear this morning. :clapping: :clapping:
just wanted to say i was thoroughly impressed with the process. i had absolutely no faith that it would go down without a hitch and i'm glad to say that the DPS proved me wrong.
on another note... I called the dps a few days ago and i talked to a really helpful guy that said that they can START a background check as soon as they have you in the system, they need your fingerprints to clear in order to FINISH the check. i managed to get mine in pretty quick but that's just a FYI to all those still waiting to do prints.
so hopefully i'm out of the waiting room in a few days. if it gets here before the 13th, it'll be less than 31 days EVEN DOING THE SNAIL MAIL METHOD! :hurry: :hurry: :hurry: :txflag:
