DPS received my application on 12.16.2009
I sent an e-mail for PIN late night 1.6.2010 and received PIN 1.7.2010. Check status and was "processing".
I just checked a few minutes ago and its "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active".

In class, they said it was running 120 days. Based on recent reports here, I was getting a little more optimistic, but with all the holidays I really didn't expect it this fast.

Now I need to find out the status of the holster I ordered...

I don't have the plastic yet, but this is still very sobering.

Funny you mention that.

While at my favorite range recently there was a CHL class going on.
I overheard the instructor telling people it will take anywhere from 3 to 6 months for the applications to process.
I just quietly smiled because I know they are running right around a month right now.

Those folks will be pleasantly surprised when their plastic shows up early.

I was in the same boat. Got my license but didn't have time to get the holster. Carried my gun in my pocket for 3 weeks.

Based on reading a lot of other sites, I ordered a Smart Carry. I'm very long waisted, so going with a shirt untucked makes me look pretty ridiculous. I wear shorts and flip-flops, sandals or boat shoes most of the time when its warm. I also wanted to be able to carry when I'm walking or running in the neighborhood. Having said all that, after reading this forum, I'm tempted to try something else - especially if my plastic shows up next week.

Does anybody know a good place to try on holsters in the Austin/San Antonio area?

One of the helps I try to give new to carry folks to consider a dress change.
Many start into CC saying,
This is the way I dress so how do I hide a gun.
We call this gunning around your dress.

Consider a change in maybe style or type & begin to think,
Dress around my gun.

If you ever need that thing you will want it BIG, accesable, & reliable.
You will not care at all about cool & comfortable or how you think you look to others.

Good advice. I have been giving this a lot of thought and am willing to change my manner and style of dress. My biggest constraint is in needing to wear shirts tucked in. I'm 6'2" and wear pants with a 31" inseam. If I wear regular length shirts, I spend all day tucking them in or if worn out, then pulling them down so you don't have to look at my belly button. I try to buy XLT's and many of these are VERY long, so if I wear them out, you'll be wondering why that ugly guy is wearing a dress.

Hmm - now that you mention it, I have been considering buying a bunch of shirts and having my company name/logo embroidered on them. Maybe I can find some that will work for me when worn tucked-out.

You should see my issues with fitting in cars...

I was kind of worried about this, but I haven't found it to be the case. For the most part even slim cut t-shirts seem to be okay if you find the right position and cant to keep the butt of the gun tight against your body and in the spot where your shirt drapes. For skinny people this will be at around 4:30 where your shirt falls away from your back from the curvature of your spine. For bigger people with broad shoulders, it'll probably be closer to 3:00.

I'm carrying my Sig 239 in these pictures, but the doublestack 229 would work just as well. I also find that keeping a magazine holder on the opposite side makes things a lot more comfortable as well as keeping the bulge in your waistband from being noticeable by adding symmetry.

I'm 6'1 / 185lbs with narrow shoulders. Also I didn't make the bed this morning. haha.

Thanks for the pics. It looks like your shirt doesn't fall much below your belt - does you weapon show when you bend over?

If I bend all the way over at the waist my shirt pulls up just to the bottom of my belt. It is a bad idea anyway because no matter what you are wearing bending over like that is going to jut the butt of your gun straight out from you and look really bizarre. Better to crouch rather than bend if at all possible.

The shirt is just a normal American Apparel t-shirt size Large.

CHL approved today.
My wife just brought the mail in and my Smart Carry arrived.
I need to go buy a Mega Millions ticket now.

Congratulations on the plastic davidtx, glad to see the waits are getting shorter. I took my class mid-September and we were told not to expect plastic before the first of the year, but only took right at 59 days to completion for me. Things are definitely getting better at DPS.

I got the actual plastic today. No problems with a trip to OfficeMax and dinner out with my wife. Time for another trip to the range.
