What is the deal with Galveston County? I have been waiting now for 180 days and everytime I call the DPS all they tell me is some have been waiting longer than I have. Is there anything that can be done to speed up the back log of background checks in Galveston county?

Contact your state reps. If they say that there's nothing they can do, tell them that other state reps have helped other people and that they can as well if they'll make the effort. There is no circumstance under which DPS is allowed to go past 180 days in issuing the license.

I agree with Chip. Contact your state senator AND state representative.

180 days waiting is absurd.

can you imagine what government runned health care would be like ?

I have contacted my rep 3 times, and have gotten nothing, but "well, dps is busy, alot of people are applying."

I contacted my state rep and they seemed real concerned, the next day dps called me apologizing for not returning my calls and told me everything was good except they were still awaiting my background check from the county i work out of. now i dont know if they just checked their voice mail and seen that i had left 2 or 3 messages or if the rep called!

I contacted two state reps. and got two calls from DPS Both said Waiting background check still. Sit and wait we will let you know when we finally get to it. State reps. don't seem to have any pull either.

yep, same here, even the state reps have told me the same.

I have a buddy I took the CHL class with. He sent in his application like two weeks before me, way back in March. He is now showing application complete or whatever on the site. That is good news for him, and maybe i'll see it in a couple weeks. It is also good news for others in Galveston County. At least one of us got it done.

I finally got my plastic on Sept 1. Over 180 days waiting.
