Would a previous BG check help?

#1

Post by whodat1 »

I was just wondering if a previous BG check would help speed up the actual checking part of my wait? I obtained a federal TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) in the past year, which included a Homeland Security BG check. Not to mention that in the past few years I've undergone a number of HS & FBI BG checks in connection with my employment (access to restricted sites) and a BG check to get my name removed from the TSA 'No Fly' list (you automatically get on this list if you have a very common name such as John Smith or Jane Doe).

I was just curious if anyone knows if this info gets flagged and then they only have to check for events in the past year or so? Also, would it help that I only had one residence (17yr) and one employer (25yr) listed on my application? :?:

Hi whodat1 and welcome to the forum! There's a wealth of information here, and a great bunch of people to converse with.

I wouldn't think that the B.G. checks you mention would speed up the process, as DPS is required to make those checks anyway. It may certainly help you to be approved, but doubt it will speed things up.

DPS is facing a log jam in B.G. checks because of the number of applications that they are being flooded with. Some counties are facing considerable delays because of it. Harris is a prime example in background check delays. They are simply understaffed to accommodate the amount of applications they receive.

Hope that helps.

Unfortunately my TWIC did not help matters at all........ I have had my TWIC since Oct of 2008 and I am still waiting for my CHL!

Hate to give you that bad news but I don't even think they look at things like that?

It doesn't seem to make any difference.

The only place it may help is in your own mind, knowing that you've been through the process (albeit different) before and had no issues. Hang in there, knowing you made it before should give you some comfort (it won't make the time pass any faster though).

Oh well! I was hoping it might help. No, I'm not worried about what will turn up on the BG check, I've been through so many for work, that they are fairly routine for me now. I just wish these government agencies could coordinate all these checks. That would be a win/win situation for everyone.
