Waiting!!
It has been 60 days since the TX DPS received my packet for CHL. I finally got through to a person after dealing with that frustrating phone machine telling me over and over again what the website was. They told me that the FBI was still doing my prints and that I was probably looking at another 45 days. I am so frustrated, I could scream. I really wish there were more status messages for the website. "processing application" message is really just useless!

Welcome strongsteve. We will do all we can to help dilute the frustration. If you do not have your carry rig, spend the time choosing it. Wear it at the house. Practice draw & dry fire drills. Don't forget to practice reloads. Accessing spare mags under cover is different than open too. Only have one hand to uncover & access mag with when the other hand is full of gun. Patience my friend is the virtue of age. It will come.
Carry 24-7 or guess right.

What a great outlook! I admire your attitude and your resolve.spud wrote: . . . The longer it takes for me to get my CHL, the more ready for it I will be.
While none of us like waiting, a first-time CHL's tenure in the Waiting Room can be well spent doing the things people have mentioned. Selecting a holster that works for you, getting over the "is it showing?" syndrome at home, and trying to become mentally prepared for the responsibility that goes along with exercising your right to go about armed, by learning from others.
Thanks for a fresh outlook on the Waiting Room Spud.

+1 Great attitude!spud wrote: . . . The longer it takes for me to get my CHL, the more ready for it I will be.
The preparation I had while waiting presented itself today. I spent about 2 hours at Willowbrook mall. I've only been a card carrying member for 3 days. In a large crowd, I was apprehensive about carrying for about 30 seconds. I said "Afternoon", or "Howdy" to every officer I came across (and they were out in full force), and even they didn't notice I was concealing a fullsize USP.
It does take longer than you wish to receive your license. I highly recommend the "at home" practice. It definitely helped me get over all of the heebeegeebees expected.

Good job HOSS. We can say it a 100 times but coming from you at the time you first get on the street really brings it home to the new guys & gals. Welcome. Really took the wife longer to get used to me carrying than it did me. When she got her plactic she was used to me & it never entered her mind.
Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Sounds more like the FBI is slow. I just assume the CHL division is over loaded and under staffed. Hang in there!!!!strongsteve wrote:Waldene responded to my email saying that it would probably go this week, however, when I asked if my prints had come back from the FBI she said No.. not yet. ARGH! Still says processing on the website. I can't believe that TX has such high fees and such slow processing!
