April 2009 Applications

I didn't see an April topic and searched for one with no results, so I started one.

After over a year of procrastination and depending on the "Castle Doctrine" I finally bit the bullet (bad pun) and took my CHL course at Top Gun in Houston this past weekend and mailed my packet out today. Just some random background information for those that may be interested after seeing host fast or slow my process goes for me. I'm 30 years old, single, born and raised in Houston with no arrests. With past background checks for work, military, etc my checks generally come back fairly quickly when compared to others for one reason or another.

The wait begins... and hopefully it is a short one.

UPDATE - As a side note during the past five years I have lived two years in Harris and three years in Galveston counties.

UPDATE - After over six long months I FINALLY received my plastic in the mail yesterday. There was about a a two month hold up on "pixelated" passport photos that weren't... but either way I'm glad to finally have.

04.04.2009 : CHL Course Completed (Top Gun)
04.06.2009 : Paperwork Mailed
04.08.2009 : Paperwork Received

05.30.2009 : PIN received
10.18.2009 : Application Approved
10.27.2009 : In Hand

Hi,

I'm joining the wait too. I mailed my packet on April 2 and USPS shows it delivered in Austin on April 4th.

My wife did the CHL class last Saturday and she mailed her packet off today.

We only became US citizens 1 1/2 years ago, but part of that application was an extensive FBI background check. Maybe that would help a bit with the FBI check for the CHL.

We've only lived in Tarrant County for the past 3 years and prior to that we lived in FL. I'm hoping that doesn't cause any unnecessary delay.

Well, I'm in the wait with you guys now. I took my test a couple of weeks ago, but I just now bothered to mail mine today. Sometimes school and work just drains me and I don't care to put the effort for such things. Anyway, finally got it done and mailed mine from Texarkana, way up here next to Arkansas. Enjoy the wait gentlemen. We should all keep in touch while we're stuck in this room together.

My wife took the Ladies Only class at PSC last weekend and sent hers off yesterday, she has the same criteria I had, lives in Galveston County and works in Harris, it took 77 days for mine with no paperwork problems, I'm sure hers will be close to that barring problems. Good luck to all, try not to think about it, but I know that's not easy.

I know my packet was delivered to the DPS PO box on April 4th based on the USPS delivery confirmation.

The DPS website status still shows "Packet Mailed to Application".

I wonder how long before they even acknowledge receiving the application??????

I'm sure curious exactly how long this wait will be. I completed my application on-line back in February and received my PIN number approximately 2 weeks later. The instructor warned us that the wait could be as long as 180 days because of the tremendous backlog. I guess we're powerless and will just have to deal with the process barring their are no errors with the paperwork. The site still states "Packet Mailed to Applicant". We were told by the instructor to send our applications by First Class Mail. I now wish I would have sent it Certified Return Receipt because I couldn't tell you honestly DPS has received my paperwork as of this date. I sent an e-mail to DPS several days ago requesting receipt confirmation, but have not received a reply. So the wait is on.......

03.21.2009 : CHL Course Completed (The Sharp Shooter)
04.02.2009 : Paperwork Mailed via First Class
02.07.2009: Completed On-Line Application
02.19.2009 : PIN received
XX.XX.XXXX : Application Approved
XX.XX.XXXX : In Hand

I too shall wait with you.

My background, lived in Lubbock county my entire life, a total of 4 addresses in the past five years and only 2 employers. Absolutely no arrest record, no previous alcohol/drug/psych issues.

Completed class this past sat though Crossfire-Training in Roanoak, TX. I had already applied online, but had not recieved my packet. Packet arrived yesterday, so I made a few corrections, compiled my finger print cards, passport phots, affidavits and tr-100. going to the mail today.

Interesting thing. I had completed the class in 2001, submitted my paperwork, which was then returned to me, and I never got around to resending it. So I was already on file with DPS, therefore, I already have tracking number.

I am also applying for a Utah non resident Concealed Firearm Permit because of additional states of reciprocity, as well as safety measure of having two Texas recognized permits, etc.

So the race is on!
