OMG I made a mistake

#1

Post by vscott »

I was filling out an on-line application for my wife using the same residence I used on my paper application. She pointed out that I had miscalculated the time I have lived in TX. I put we moved to TX (from Fla) in Feb 2003 when in fact it was Feb 2004. I didn't list my Fla residence because of this miscalculation. What do I need to do? It has been 77 days to date and I haven't received a PIN.

Contact DPS. I'd think they'd be more willing to help if you contacted them voluntarily than if they had to contact you for a mistake. I had to do the same because I looked at my copies after a while and realized I accidentally left a few of the 25 county fields blank. 77 days for a pin doesn't seem too out of place these days, so I wouldn't read much into that.

I had a similar issue, I made a miscalculation on the online application. When I mailed in the paper, I marked the correction and sent a short note explaining the change in residency years. For me I could not figure out if it was 1994 or 1995 that I moved to TX.

Okay thanks. Should it be email or snail mail or telephone?

Personally, I would call them. I will also tell you that there is a very good chance they will tell you they have no way of finding your application to make the correction since it has...... "not been entered in the system". They are not going to deny you a permit over making a simple mistake concerning the year you moved from Florida. In the end...if it is an issue for them, they will send a letter to you requesting some kind of additional information.

I innocently screwed up the arrest history part and it only resulted in me having to send a letter from the circuit court showing I had no Felonies. It cost me at most 5 days delay. If that wasn't a big deal for them, I sure don't think your small oversight is going to flip them out.

Simple mistake that should not be a problem to fix, it does however restart the offical clock.

Well seeing as how my application has been sitting there for 87 days and isn't even in the system, not real sure my clock has even started. Wonder if they will catch it?

It may restart the "official" clock that they have to report on, but it does not necessarily mean they are going to restart your whole application process. When my screw up was discovered, they sent me a letter and kept right on going. I express mailed the info they needed back and had my plastic three or four days after they recieved the info they requested.
